“Charlotte…” Helen stepped up and took the bag from her, speaking quietly. “Franco and Nora haven’t looked right since this morning. They tried to go to the hospital to find you, but I managed to stop them.”

“I know,” Charlotte said with a soft smile. She patted Helen’s arm and kept her tone light. “You all should go get some rest.”

Helen nodded. She could tell something was wrong, so she quickly gathered the maids and left the hall, taking a moment to secretly call Anthony on her way out.

As soon as everyone was gone, Nora got to her feet. Her face was pale, her eyes red from crying, and her voice came out cold. “Wow, so this is how it is. You think you can play games with me?”

Charlotte didn’t move. She pressed her lips together and kept her voice low and casual. “What’s going on? Why are you so mad?”

“You…” Nora was shaking with anger. She pointed at Charlotte, struggling to get the words out. “The antidote…”

“If I hadn’t noticed my body getting better these past couple of days, if I hadn’t checked my own pulse, I’d still be in the dark,” Nora said. She rushed over, crying hard. “Who told you to save me? I’ve already lived half my life, that’s enough. But you… your life is only just starting…”

She lifted her hand, but couldn’t bring herself to hit Charlotte.

“Do you even realize what giving me the antidote means for you?”

If they couldn’t find another cure, Charlotte wouldn’t make it.
