The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1179

“Really?”

Damaris’s voice wavered a little when she heard there was finally a lead on the carnelian bracelet. She took a shaky breath, trying to steady herself. After a moment, she pressed on. “The bio-research institute is gone, and all the data with it. Even if we track down the original agent, is it even possible to make a working antidote in time?”

The butler hesitated, worry creasing his features. “Marcia grew up close to G2. She probably knows the formula inside and out. Besides, it’s obvious she cares a lot about Newell. There’s no way she’d just stand by if his life was in danger.”

Marcia...

Just hearing her name made Damaris rub her forehead. Her eyebrows pulled tight together. “The only reason I chose her in the first place was because of the marriage agreement between our families, and because of that research institute.”

She’d always assumed that once the families were united, the institute would become Churchill family property. If it weren’t for that, she never would have given Marcia a second thought.

“Newell’s team has been working on the antidote too. If we get the original agent, they might not even need Marcia’s help,” Damaris said quietly, her gaze turning icy.

Without the bio-research institute, the Hawk family was useless to them. If that was the case, and Newell didn’t want to marry Marcia, she’d let him have his way.

“Who’s the Hawk family heir that stirred everything up?”

“Charlotte,” the butler answered right away. “She’s Asclepius, the head of the N Organization, and, most importantly, a genetic mutant herself.”

He’d only just uncovered all this.

“She’s a mutant too?”

Damaris’s eyes went wide, her elegant face showing real shock. For a second, she just stared. Then a calculating look crept in.

“That actually makes things a lot easier for us, doesn’t it? Newell won’t have to put himself at risk for testing anymore.”

“Keep a close eye on anything related to the bracelet. The moment you find it, bring it to me,” Damaris instructed, her lips pressed together in a thin line and her gaze sharp. “And what about the girl hanging around Newell? Have you found out who she is yet?”

Where was Anthony?

Charlotte frowned when she didn’t see him anywhere. She was about to call his phone when, suddenly, a loud crash echoed from the bathroom.

Her fingers shook as she rushed over and pushed open the door without thinking.

Anthony was leaning heavily on the sink, shirtless, a white towel wrapped around his waist. His short black hair was a mess, water still dripping down his neck. He looked pale and unsteady, one hand gripping the counter, the other bracing himself on the floor.

He turned at the noise. When his eyes met Charlotte’s startled expression, his gaze went cold.

Dammit. He hadn’t expected the side effects from the drug to hit him so fast.

“Are you seriously spying on me in the shower?” Anthony tried to force a smile, even as he grimaced in pain. “Come on, be good and wait outside for me.”
