No wonder they were mother and daughter. Nora looked just like Mrs. W, as if they were carved from the same mold.
Marcia bit her lip, turned her head, and glanced at Allanson. He had noticed Nora too, staring at her with shock and confusion written all over his face. Who knew what was running through his mind?
Winnie’s daughter was his daughter-in-law. Fate really did have a twisted sense of humor sometimes. If things hadn’t gone wrong years ago, they would have met twenty years earlier. He would have known where Winnie was all along.
Allanson gripped his cane tighter and slowly stood up, his bloodshot eyes swirling with complicated emotions. It took him a while to steady himself before he finally spoke. “You look a lot like your mother.”
Nora’s reply was ice-cold. “What’s that got to do with you?” She couldn’t hide her hatred. After all, this was the man who had tried to kill her daughter more than once. There was no way she’d show him any kindness.
Allanson was stunned for a second, then actually smiled. She didn’t just look like her mother. Her attitude was the same, too.
“I finally understand where Charlotte gets that fearless attitude,” Allanson said, turning his gaze to Charlotte. “Her temper is even harder to handle than your grandmother’s.”
Charlotte wore casual clothes, hands stuffed in her pockets, giving off a cold, don’t-mess-with-me vibe. She was the youngest in the room, but somehow she had the strongest presence, like she owned the place.
“Sit down if you want to talk,” she said.
Being called out in front of everyone didn’t seem to bother Allanson. He didn’t get angry at all. Watching this, Marcia’s fingers curled into a fist. Her grandfather had always had a soft spot for Mrs. W, and it was only getting worse.
“Father, we need to make a move soon,” Marcia whispered, her brows knitted tight. She kept her voice low, but the worry was clear. If Grandfather gave the inheritance to her father, fine. But if he handed it to Charlotte, their family would never leave Isle of Veil alive.
The blindfold came off. G5 was still unsteady on her feet when her eyes locked onto a familiar figure in the crowd.
G1?
But she quickly shook off the confusion. This wasn’t G1, but probably her daughter. The young woman standing next to her had to be G1’s granddaughter.
Seeing them felt like a dream. Her memories with G1 seemed like they’d happened just yesterday, and her eyes filled with tears.
At that moment, Charlotte looked over, and their eyes met. Seeing the elderly woman’s teary eyes and her emotional, excited expression, it wasn’t hard to guess how close she’d been with Charlotte’s grandmother.
