No wonder, she thought. Even before the baby was born, it was already being so stubborn.
Did they really find him that unbearable?
“You all, out. I want to talk to Franco alone,” Allanson said, his voice low and steady.
Alone?
Charlotte’s brows knit together. She parted her lips to protest, but Franco cut in first. “Lottie, wait for me outside. Trust me.”
Anthony nodded, eyes fixed on Charlotte’s pale face, worry written all over him. “Let’s just step out for now, alright?”
Charlotte hesitated for a few seconds, her discomfort growing. Finally, she gave in and followed Anthony out.
The hall fell into a heavy, tense silence.
Franco squeezed Nora’s hand. They stood side by side, facing Allanson calmly.
“You came all this way to the Isle of Veil just to kill me, didn’t you?” Allanson lifted his teacup, brushing the tea leaves aside. He stared at Franco, his dark eyes narrowing. “You had your chance just now. Why didn’t you take it?”

Hearing that, Allanson froze. For a long moment, he didn’t move. Then a bitter smile crossed his lips. “She promised even her next life to your father. So…” His gaze wandered to the window. His throat felt tight as he whispered, “She really was happy.”
He realized then that threatening her with the very thing she hated most was the stupidest thing he’d ever done.
“There’s one more thing,” Allanson said quietly, closing his eyes for a second. He motioned for the butler, who brought over a document that had been prepared in advance. “Have her sign this.”
Franco and Nora both looked down. When they saw what was written, they were both stunned.
Allanson was actually…
