Emily’s mind went completely blank. She just stood there, unable to move. After she found out Kenneth didn’t have any feelings for her, she was determined to use this project to avoid him, and quietly pull him out of her heart for good.

Emily jumped back, taking two quick steps to put some space between them. Her hands curled into fists. She didn’t dare look him in the eye. She was afraid she’d lose herself all over again if she did.

She tried to smile, but Kenneth caught it and pressed his lips together, looking a little uncomfortable. His handsome features tightened as he lowered his voice. “Lottie said I fit the male lead. She asked me to help out.”

She had just never expected him to say yes. Seriously, Charlotte was ruining her life.

“Music, lights, props—” the director shouted, holding a megaphone and calling the crew into place. “Kenneth, Emily. The script is simple. You’re both from Apex Mediaworks, so you should know each other by now. No need for warmups, right?”

“Music videos can be edited. Live acting is totally different,” another actor muttered, barely hiding his glee. “His fans always say Kenneth’s acting is amazing. If he screws up now, social media will go wild.”

Honestly, there were lots of people just waiting for Kenneth to fall flat on his face.
