Emily’s tears, poised to fall, dried up immediately the moment Kenneth spoke.

“We only made it official on the plane, you know.”

She leveled her gaze at him, cheeks going pink. “You’ve bullied me for the past ten years. That’s just a fact, no use denying it.”

Gripping the front of his shirt, Emily stood on tiptoe until she met his eyes. “Kenneth, are you really going to act innocent now?”

“Never,” he said quietly.

He bent down and pressed his forehead to hers, his emotions tangled up in his chest. “So I’ve decided... I need to make it up to you somehow.”

Emily blinked. “How?”

“I’m going to give myself to you. That’s my compensation.” Kenneth slid his hand firmly around her waist, pulling her close, his eyes both steady and deep. “Emily, will you have me?”

He’d always kept his distance, thinking that it was best, especially since she’d lost her memory and sometimes seemed unsure about him. But now that she’d finally remembered everything, it took all he had not to just let that longing pour out of him.

“Tell me…”

Kenneth edged closer, boxing her in between the couch and the warmth of his chest, his voice dropping low and rough. “Do you want me?”

“I do,” Emily blurted, not even trying to hide her feelings. She threw her arms tight around his neck, standing on her toes. Her voice was sure and steady. “From now on, you’re mine.”

Kenneth felt his heart stutter. He swallowed and brought his face even closer, so their noses brushed. “I’m yours, and yours alone,” he whispered.

With only the two of them in that big living room, the world seemed to shrink around them. They were pressed close enough to share the same breath, and the charge in the air grew stronger by the second.

“Emily, I want to kiss you. Is that okay?”

Kenneth’s fingers traced her waist. His voice was uneven, his gaze heated.

Emily nearly rolled her eyes at him. Could he be any more clueless? Who actually asks at this point? Just do it, she thought. She wanted him to.
