The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1655

Shirley couldn’t sleep at all. She tossed and turned under her covers, replaying Andrew’s words over and over. "Just be a little braver and take that first step toward me. All those things you’re worried about? They won’t even matter then."

Take the first step...

She frowned, her thoughts a tangled mess. Was it really that simple? If she just dared to do something, would everything fall into place like he said?

Her alarm jolted her back to reality. She smacked her own forehead gently, then yanked the blanket up over her head, trying to calm her heart that wouldn’t stop thudding. Seriously? Was she actually contemplating Andrew’s advice? That thought alone made her want to laugh—except it wasn’t funny, it was just plain crazy.

Shirley washed up, grabbed her backpack, and headed out the door for school. She’d barely stepped outside when she saw a tall figure crouched by her gate.

She was so caught off guard, she almost let out a scream.

"Andrew?" She recognized him instantly and swallowed the rest of her words, taking a deep breath. "What are you doing here?"

"I..." Andrew was dressed all in black, hat pulled low, looking up at her voice. His voice came out rough. "Can you help me up? My legs fell asleep."

"Huh?" Shirley blinked, then took in his awkward posture and rushed over to support him. "How long have you even been out here?"

"Got here about two hours ago," he said with a wince, leaning against the wall and massaging his legs.

"Two hours?" She glanced at her phone. It was only six. That meant... he’d been outside her house since four in the morning?

"You..." Shirley was almost speechless. She paused and stared at him, completely confused. "Why are you here so early?"
