The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1789

After lunch, Charlotte went back to her room and settled into the rocking chair by the window. She let her hands rest on her stomach and let out a deep breath. Finally, it was over. Marriage took a lot out of her.

She glanced down, smoothing her palm over the gentle curve of her belly. A sly grin tugged at her lips. “Your dad is seriously sneaky,” she whispered. “Now I’m really stuck with him.”

A few minutes later, Anthony walked in.

“Bored already?” he teased as he came over. He draped a thin blanket over her, then lowered himself beside her, reaching for her hand. His eyes were soft. “The car’s ready. Let’s go back to The Gates Estate.”

“The Gates Estate?” Charlotte turned to look at him, her voice lazy.

Anthony dropped a kiss on her forehead. “Yeah.”

“I thought we weren’t going back for a few more days,” she said, trying to recall the plan. She was almost sure someone had said something about waiting.

Anthony just smiled and picked her up, blanket and all. His voice was low and gentle. “No need to wait. Grandpa and my parents miss you. If we go now, they’ll be thrilled.”

Charlotte relaxed, her lips curving up as she pinched his chin playfully. “You better behave yourself.”

That evening, the Gates household was buzzing with activity.

It looked like everyone had been getting things ready even before Charlotte and Anthony arrived.

Franco fussed over the food, making sure Charlotte’s favorites were just right. “Isn’t it a little improper for them to come back the day after the wedding?” he asked his wife.

Nora shot him a look. “Who cares about tradition? Hurry, Charlotte’s almost here.”

Soon enough, Anthony and Charlotte walked into the front hall, hand in hand. Behind them, Hans and a few others hauled in boxes and gift bags, making quite an entrance.
