They looked so good together. Same age, same energy. The more Lavinia thought about it, the more convinced she was that her idea was genius.
“All done.” Charlotte finished wrapping Lavinia’s hand, her voice calm and steady. “It’s nothing serious. Just keep it dry for a couple of days. If you’re worried, you can go to the hospital for a full check-up.”
“Thank you.” Lavinia smiled, her eyes lingering on Charlotte’s fair cheeks. She couldn’t help but like her more the longer she looked. Lavinia was about to say something else when the distant wail of an ambulance siren cut her off.
Moments later, the ambulance pulled up. The doctors and nurses hurried out, rushing straight to the driver who was badly hurt.
“With a wound this deep and that much blood loss, it’s amazing he’s even alive,” one of the doctors said after checking him over. “Good thing someone bandaged him before we got here, or I don’t want to think about what could’ve happened.”
“Whoever did first aid here did an amazing job,” another doctor said, shaking his head in disbelief. “And with just the most basic supplies, too. Incredible.”
Once the driver was safely loaded into the ambulance, Charlotte finally let herself relax. She picked up her helmet and turned to leave.
“Wait, miss!” Lavinia called out, hurrying over with a bright smile. “You saved that driver and helped me, too. Could I have your contact info? My husband and I would love to thank you in person sometime.”
“It was really nothing,” Charlotte said, giving her a small smile.
“No, I mean it,” Lavinia insisted, pulling out her phone and looking at Charlotte with sincere, gentle eyes. “Let’s add each other on social media. And if you ever need anything, you can reach out to us anytime.”
Charlotte hesitated. She didn’t like getting too close to strangers and was always wary about sharing her contact details.
