Anthony heard his mother’s anxious voice and raised an eyebrow, his lips curving into a sly little smirk. “What did Grandma say to you?”
As he spoke, he grabbed a carton of milk, popped in a straw, and handed it to Charlotte.
The call wasn’t on speaker, so Charlotte couldn’t catch what the woman on the other end was saying. She could only tell it was a female voice.
“Grandma said that girl just finished her college entrance exams this year,” Lavinia went on, sounding more and more annoyed. “And how old are you, Anthony? Don’t you have any sense at all?”
“She’s just a kid. She probably doesn’t even know what she’s getting into, and you… you probably tricked her.” Lavinia let out a frustrated sigh. “Be realistic. When she goes to college and meets guys younger and better looking than you, she’ll dump you in a heartbeat.”
“It’s fine.”
Anthony’s smirk widened and he gave Charlotte’s waist a gentle squeeze that was more than a little suggestive. “I’ve got money.”
He added, “She likes that.”
Honestly, with the way she spent, he figured no one else could keep up with her.
Lavinia was silent for a moment. She couldn’t really argue. There wasn’t anyone in all of Cabinda richer than her son.
Charlotte, still sipping her milk, glanced up at Anthony. Did he just say she liked money?
Well… she did.
“I don’t care what you say, I still don’t approve,” Lavinia kept grumbling. “If you really want to date that girl, you should at least wait until she turns twenty.”
A teenage girl with a man almost thirty… Even saying it out loud made her uncomfortable. But twenty and thirty? That didn’t sound so bad.
Anthony chuckled softly at his mother’s attempt to be reasonable. His dark eyes lingered on Charlotte’s face, warm and steady. “I’ll wait until she’s twenty.”
