“Half the inheritance means I get the final say over the company.” Charlotte crossed the room at a leisurely pace, her eyes fixed on Steven, who looked like he might pass out. A slow, confident smile tugged at her lips. “By this time tomorrow, The Main Group will be nothing but a memory in Cabinda.”
Steven stared at her, his voice shaking. “What are you talking about?” He looked like he couldn’t decide if she was joking or just lost her mind. “I still have shares. You don’t get to decide anything.”
The idea that she could make a whole publicly listed company vanish overnight was so wild, even Olivia couldn’t help rolling her eyes. She figured Charlotte must’ve snapped after all the drama online lately. Otherwise, who would say something so crazy?
Jackson broke the tension, his tone icy. “Yesterday, you mortgaged all your shares to handle the cash crisis. The buyer was Charlotte.”
He looked between Steven and Olivia, letting the words sink in. “Charlotte owns the biggest chunk of The Main Group now. And you…” Jackson’s lips curled ever so slightly. “You have nothing left.”
Steven’s face went slack with shock. He couldn’t believe it. Charlotte had bought his shares? Those were worth tens of millions. Where could she have gotten that kind of money?
“No. No way.” Realizing there was no undoing what he’d done, Steven’s panic tipped over into anger. He jabbed a finger at Charlotte, his words bitter and sharp. “Charlotte, you’re ungrateful. I took you in, raised you. And now you stab me in the back?”
Adonis didn’t hesitate. He stepped forward, grabbing Steven’s hand in a tight grip. Steven yelped, twisting away.
“Charlotte, he’s your father!” Olivia cried, desperate.
Father? Charlotte let out a short, cold laugh. “You want him? He’s all yours.”
She might as well have spat the word out. There wasn’t a trace of warmth in her voice.
