There was always something different about the way they were together. It was hard to put into words, but anyone watching would feel it.

“What are you looking at?” Anthony’s voice came from behind her.

Charlotte was caught off guard. She’d been lost in thought, staring at a photo of herself as a baby, no more than six months old. Suddenly, a pair of hands slipped around her waist, and Anthony’s warm chest pressed against her back.

“It’s nothing,” she replied, a little flustered. Quickly, she slid the photo between the pages of a book, pretending it was no big deal. She tried to act casual. “Lavinia called earlier. She wants us at The Blair Estate tomorrow.”

“Alright.” Anthony rested his chin on her shoulder, his gaze drifting to the photo she’d just hidden. The little girl in the picture looked almost too perfect, like a doll. He grinned. “Lottie, is this adorable, bare-bottomed baby actually you?”

Charlotte felt her cheeks heat up.

Anthony picked up the rest of the photos, flipping through them with growing amusement. “You were cute,” he said, his smile widening.

She gave him a sideways glance but didn’t bother to argue. Honestly, it was her first time seeing these old photos. Big eyes, sharp nose, pale skin… She really did look like a doll. Cute, she had to admit.

“They say daughters take after their mothers…” Anthony murmured, pressing a kiss to her earlobe. His breath was warm, his voice low and teasing. “Lottie, do you think our daughter would be even prettier?”

Charlotte tensed for a second, then gave him a small, wry smile. “Anthony, the saying is daughters look like their fathers.”

He laughed softly, gently taking her hand and playing with her fingers. His voice dropped even lower, almost coaxing. “Want to bet? Let’s see if our daughter ends up like you or me.”

Charlotte watched his earnest, almost mischievous expression. She didn’t even bother to hide her amusement. Propping her chin in her hand, she let a tiny smirk slip out. “Anthony, try being normal for once.”
