The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 580

“I am.” Anthony glanced down and noticed Charlotte’s bare feet. His brows knit together as he crossed the room with easy, confident steps and took her hand. “No shoes again?”

“I forgot.” She let him pull her away, flashing him a teasing smile but refusing to budge any further. “I’m too tired to walk.”

Anthony saw right through her little act and couldn’t help but smile. He put the cake down, then scooped her up without a second thought and carried her to the bed. Setting her down, he braced his hands on either side of her, his eyes soft as he looked at her. “Happy now?”

Charlotte kicked him lightly, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

That tiny kick sent a wave of heat through Anthony. He forced himself to keep it together, turning away quickly to head for the bathroom. He came back a moment later with a warm towel, gently wrapping it around her feet as he wiped them clean.

She kicked at him again.

“Stay still,” he murmured, his voice rough. “If you keep messing with me, it won’t end as peacefully as last time.”

Charlotte shifted, feeling a dull ache in her back, and decided not to push her luck.

Anthony watched her, his gaze lingering on her delicate face, a slow smile tugging at his lips. He felt a sudden rush of heat and reminded himself that he needed to take it slow this time. He didn’t want to hurt her.

He washed his hands and came back to find Charlotte already digging into the cake, looking perfectly content.

She didn’t even like sweets much, but if Anthony brought her something, she’d always eat a little.

“I heard you on the phone with Cabinda University just now,” Anthony said as he sat next to her. His hand found her waist, his voice gentle. “Did you turn them down?”

“Yeah,” Charlotte replied, not really caring.
