When he had a break on the way back, he made a point to set up a virtual firewall. After she cracked it, the location that popped up was Cabinda. Charlotte frowned when she saw it. The screen said Cabinda, yet something about it didn’t feel right to her.
“Finals are tomorrow. Try to get some sleep tonight,” Anthony said gently.
“Okay,” Charlotte replied. She dutifully took her phone to the bedroom, pulled open the drawer, and took out her medication.
Anthony watched as she swallowed four sleeping pills in one go. His brows pulled together. “Why are you taking more again?”
She hadn’t told him about upping the dose.
Charlotte barely paused as she swallowed. “It’s a new place. I can’t sleep.”
Her answer left Anthony quietly troubled. Her issues all traced back to what she’d gone through as a kid. Her father had already gotten what he deserved. He was paying for it. So why were her symptoms getting worse, not better?
“Make sure your phone is charging. Don’t hang up the video. I'll stay with you tonight.”
Charlotte climbed into bed, propped up her phone so Anthony could see her clearly, and settled in. At this angle, she had to admit, he really did look handsome.
Not long after, she dozed off. It took less than ten minutes.
Clearly, Anthony worked better than any sleep aid. Charlotte figured that must be a kind of sickness too. Only Anthony could cure her.

Letty stood pale and anxious, while Lydia sat on the couch, her face just as tense.
Neither of them had ever taken Charlotte seriously, but she just kept surprising them, round after round.
From the first round to the finals, she’d played it steady and made it all the way through.
There were five people left, but only three spots. All three would get into the International Medical Division, but only the top scorer would get into the core department and have access to the committee. The other two would just get the “member” title. The perks weren’t even close.
She wanted to spend her birthday with Anthony.
No, she wanted every birthday from now on to be with him.
She was just daydreaming when Jackson’s sharp voice cut through her thoughts. “Charlotte, look out.”
The car was slammed by a sudden, brutal impact.
It happened so fast that Charlotte barely registered it. Her hands slammed into the door, pain shooting up her arms.
She grabbed the seat for support and slowly lifted her head. Blood streaked her hands, and her eyes turned cold.
So this was her first birthday present. Definitely one to remember.
