“How could someone possibly stab themselves?”
“What is Letty even thinking? This is just crazy.”
“Why would she hurt herself so badly just to frame Stella? What could she possibly get out of it?”
“Does anyone understand this? Because I’m totally lost!”
For a while, social media was flooded with comments. Nobody could figure out what Letty was trying to pull.
“What are you even saying?”
Fedelia froze at Dewitt’s words, then immediately got defensive. “The knife was in Stella’s hand. How could Letty have hurt herself? That doesn't make sense. You have to check the evidence again.”
She thought they had an agreement. Dewitt was supposed to take Letty’s side. He was backing out now and she hadn’t seen it coming.
Letty’s fingers gripped the bedsheet so tightly her knuckles turned white. Her eyes were bloodshot, and her lashes trembled with panic.
“Dewitt, I think you owe us an explanation,” Roger said. He was sitting next to Charlotte, flipping through Letty’s medical file. His gaze was sharp and expectant.
“Yes,” Dewitt answered, wiping sweat from his forehead. He turned to face the camera and spoke slowly, clearly. “Besides the knife wound, there’s also a bruise on Stella’s hand. It was caused by some kind of force, not the dagger.”
The camera zoomed in. Sure enough, there was an ugly bruise between Stella’s right thumb and index finger.
It didn’t look like something a knife would cause.
“If I’m right, Stella was holding both the knife and her phone at the time,” Dewitt continued.
A police officer checked the records and nodded. “That’s true.”
Stella had said in her statement that Letty stole her phone and she was trying to get it back.
“One more thing,” Dewitt said, after finishing his explanation. He lifted his pale face and looked at Letty, voice steady and serious.
“I’ve known Letty for years. Before I came to the hospital, her parents offered me a deal. They wanted me to fake the report and blame Stella, no matter what. They planned to use this as leverage against Charlotte.”
The room went silent. Every single person turned to stare at Letty.
So they were going to use Stella to threaten Charlotte? That was it.
Stella, standing off to the side, looked stunned. She slowly lifted her head, her eyes finding Roger.
Roger was the one who brought Dewitt here. Did he plan all of this from the beginning?
“You’re lying!” Letty cried, ignoring the pain in her body as she shot Dewitt a glare. “Did Charlotte bribe you to frame me just to clear Stella’s name?”
