The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 801

“Mom.”

Lavinia grabbed the capsules, filled a glass with water, and hurried to Patricia’s side. She spoke gently. “Take your medicine, okay?”

Patricia glanced at the capsule, her face scrunching up like a child refusing broccoli. “It’s too bitter. Where’s Lottie?”

Charlotte, who had just finished making the capsules, wiped her hands and came over.

“Let me handle it, Lavinia.”

She took the medicine and water, settled by the bed, and spoke softly. “Grandma, let’s get this over with.”

At the sight of Charlotte, Patricia’s whole mood shifted. She smiled and obediently swallowed the pill without another word.

Lavinia couldn’t help but laugh.

Lottie really had a way with people. Even the two most stubborn members of the Blair family listened to her without question.

After Patricia finished her medicine, Charlotte checked her pulse again.

The medication seemed to be working, her pulse was steady now.

With Charlotte’s prescription, Patricia’s condition could probably hold steady for another month or two. Still, age was catching up, and everyone knew that once the heart and blood vessels started wearing out, it was easy for things to go wrong. One bad episode, and there could be a stroke or worse.

Charlotte needed to figure out what was happening, and fast.

“Lottie, did I scare you?”

Patricia’s energy had returned. She held Charlotte’s hand tightly, not wanting to let go.

“A little.” Charlotte nodded, her voice soft. “Grandma, you really need to rest. Don’t push yourself too hard anymore.”

“Alright, I’ll do whatever you say.” Patricia patted her hand, then looked at Anthony. Her tone was gentle. “Lottie’s had a long day. Take her upstairs to get some rest, and tell the kitchen to make a few of her favorite dishes.”

“Yes, Grandma.”

Anthony took Charlotte’s hand and nodded. “Come on, I’ll take you up.”

...

When Charlotte woke up, the room was dim. The curtains were drawn, and only a warm bedside lamp cast its glow.

Somer’s syndrome. It mostly hit older people, and the fatality rate was terrifying. If you missed the best window for treatment, it could be deadly.

Staring at the report, Charlotte’s frown deepened.

Nine: Tell Dr. David he needs to handle all of Patricia’s blood tests and analysis himself.

With Dr. David on it, she could relax a little. He never made mistakes.

Jackson: Got it, Charlotte.

Charlotte thought for a second, then typed another message.

Adonis, get the intelligence department to throw everything they have at finding the original Covid-X compound.

The Covid-X compound?

Jackson and Adonis stared at their screens, both stunned.

Covid-X was a breakthrough drug. Decades of research had gone into making this medication for heart and brain conditions.
