"Sterling, I promise I'm completely professional. My only goal is to finish this job and help you win over your girl. I absolutely swear I have no ulterior motives!"
As she finished, Elena let go of his arm and held up three fingers in a solemn vow.
"It better be."
Finally satisfied, Sterling grabbed her hand again and strode confidently into the cafeteria.
Ahead of them, Sasha glanced back and saw the two walking hand-in-hand, feeling a massive lump form in her throat.
"Lydia, Sterling and that woman are following us. They..."
"I told you, stop paying attention to them."
Lydia cut her off, her tone completely flat. "Besides, maybe they're just heading the same way."
With that, she quickened her pace, pretending she wasn't bothered in the slightest.

As a prestigious private institution, the food options at Kingsley University were incredibly luxurious.
Given Sterling's status, he actually had access to a private dining suite.
But whenever he came to the cafeteria, it was almost always to accompany Lydia.
Because Lydia refused to seek special treatment and insisted on eating in the main hall, he had always obliged her.
"Babe, I'm not picky. Whatever you want to eat, I'll have the same."
Upon entering the dining hall, Elena took exactly three seconds to locate Lydia before dragging Sterling over to line up right behind them.
Her and Sterling's presence instantly drew stares from everyone in the room.
Sasha muttered a curse under her breath. "She followed us on purpose and is totally playing up to him. What a manipulative bitch!"
Lydia furrowed her brow but remained silent.
Once she got her food, she found an empty table and sat down.
"Elena, what exactly are you doing?"
Sterling had no idea what her endgame was, but the moment he saw her carrying her tray straight toward Lydia's table, he quickly tried to stop her.
"Like I said, babe, just trust me, okay?"
Elena flashed him a brilliant smile before marching right over and stopping directly across from Lydia.
Left with no choice, Sterling reluctantly followed.
"Ms. Larkin, there are plenty of empty tables in this cafeteria. Do you really have to come ruin our lunch?"
