The Officer's Runaway Wife & Secret Son novel Chapter 608

The following year, Misra turned one.

Clara took the traditional first birthday fortune game far more seriously than she had with her son.

Perhaps because Clara herself, along with Emily and Simon, had such boisterous personalities, she had always hoped her daughter would grow up to be a bit more elegant and refined.

If not a picture of absolute grace, she at least wanted her to be level-headed.

Rhys offered no opinion on the matter.

When Clara asked him what kind of person he hoped their daughter would become, he thought about it and simply said, "As long as she's healthy."

Clara rolled her eyes at him.

During the game, Misra sat in the center, surrounded by a circle of carefully curated objects—a pen, a scented sachet, and a small wooden flute—things that represented elegance and grace.

The little girl looked around and, thoroughly unamused, randomly grabbed the pen.

Clara was thrilled, assuming her daughter was destined to be a brilliant scholar.

But given the fact that Misra had bitten Ezra until he cried when she was only three months old, Felix strongly suspected his mother's hopes were going to be dashed.

Sure enough, when Felix turned eight, they moved.

His sister was three now, and her absolutely lawless personality was fully on display.

Orange was not even five yet, right in the prime of his feline life. But no matter how athletic the cat was, he was no match for Misra chasing him around the house all day long.

Riverside Court was spacious, but given the interior design, there weren't many places for a cat to hide. Every time Orange got caught by the tail, he was subjected to absolute torment.

She pulled his ears, tugged his whiskers, and made him shed patches of fur.

Sometimes Orange would just lie on the couch, the spark of intelligence completely gone from his eyes.

Rhys was the one who loved the cat the most.

The entire reason they were moving was purely to give Orange more places to hide from Misra.

Felix believed his dad treated Orange so well because they had essentially saved each other's lives.

According to his dad, if he hadn't found Orange that night, he might never have crossed paths with Clara and Noah on the road, and he might never have had the chance to come back to her.

So as far as Felix was concerned, it was only natural for his dad to treat Orange like royalty.

But his dad had no money.

Clara had absolute control over the family's finances. Rhys handed over his entire paycheck, and his monthly allowance was actually less than Felix's.

Moving was a massive decision, one that absolutely had to be cleared with Clara first.

When Clara heard Rhys's proposal, she looked at him and asked, "Are you serious?"

She was genuinely surprised.

Riverside Court held so many memories, both the good and the excruciating.

From their separation to their reunion, from the bitter struggles to their final reconciliation, that house had witnessed their fights, their makeup sessions, their late-night embraces, and their morning kisses.
