Claire Jenner was completely soaked, her silk dress clinging tightly to her body.
It perfectly accentuated her slender yet stunning curves.
She trembled like a delicate, falling feather.
Miles Zimmerman stared at her for a moment, his gaze turning somber, but ultimately said nothing as he turned and headed toward his parked car.
Claire hugged her arms, gently biting her lip.
The man's voice cut through the rain, cold and indifferent.
"Follow me."
The disappointment in her eyes instantly vanished, replaced by a glimmer of hope as she jogged after him.
Outside, the rain was still pouring while Claire sat in the passenger seat.
Miles turned on the heat and handed her a dry towel.
Claire wrapped it around herself, the warmth seeping into her skin.
"Thank you," she muttered softly, sneaking a glance at the driver's seat.
The man had one hand casually resting on the steering wheel, his wet shirt collar hanging loose, offering a faint glimpse of his firm chest.
He suddenly spoke. "Why did you agree to lend the hairpin? Weren't you afraid of getting into trouble?"
Claire paused, a slight smile curling her lips.
"Of course I was afraid of taking the blame."
Her voice was soft and sweet, carrying a natural sense of confidence. "But I trust you, Dr. Zimmerman."
"Trust me?" he repeated, a hint of self-deprecation tugging at the corner of his mouth.
Claire shifted in her seat, leaning a bit closer to him with bright, admiring eyes.
"Of course! You're so young and already so experienced. You must have been a standout student in college, right?"
She waited for his response.
