The table was loaded with all of her favorite dishes from her college days.
"Claire," Julian paused, looking a bit torn. "Quinn was actually the one who invited me to the exhibition today. She asked if I could buy out OCHH Luxury, but I don't have that kind of liquid capital."
Hearing Quinn's name, a shadow passed over Claire's eyes.
"The price Quinn offered was incredibly low. She truly loves OCHH Luxury. She'd rather sell it to one of us veterans at a loss than see it go to a stranger."
Claire took a sip of her wine, her gaze flickering.
"Julian, stop. I know what you're trying to say."
"But I don't have the means to resurrect the brand right now, and Quinn would never let me be involved anyway."
She clinked her glass against his. "Enough about that. There's no point in dredging up what happened between her and me."
She shot a discreet glance at her phone. Nothing.
Miles was stubbornly holding out.
Opening her camera app, she snapped a photo of the lavish spread, stealthily making sure Julian's hand pouring the wine was visible in the frame.
She drafted a caption: [Taking a trip down memory lane.]
And hit send.
Back on the chartered hospital bus returning from the symposium, the air conditioning was blasting.
Miles sat by the window, staring blankly at his phone.
Claire's post sat glaringly at the top of his feed. The close-up of Julian's wrist in the photo made his expression grow impossibly dark.
"Did Claire post that?"
A head popped over from the adjacent seat. Jared grinned shamelessly, swiping Miles's phone to zoom in on the picture.
"That's a man's hand. Claire's out having dinner with some other guy."
Miles snatched his phone back, locked the screen, and replied in a flat monotone.
"Stop prying into other people's business."
