Claire turned her head and saw Julian rubbing his eye, the skin around it looking unusually red.

"Claire, it really hurts," he complained pitifully. "I can barely see out of it."

Hearing this, Claire frowned. "Stop rubbing it, you're only making it worse. Let me look."

Julian dropped his hands and obediently leaned his face toward her, tilting his chin up.

Claire leaned in, using one hand to steady his face while the other gently pried his red, irritated eye open.

"There is something in there. I'll blow it out for you."

She leaned in closer, gently blowing a puff of air into his eye.

Second-floor VIP room.

Mr. Whittaker sat across from Miles, a fresh sheen of terror-induced sweat coating his forehead.

From their vantage point, looking down at the seats below, the two of them looked completely plastered together, looking like they were inches away from a passionate kiss.

Miles had been lazily tapping his fingers against the table. Now, his hand tightened into a violent fist.

He stared down and locked eyes perfectly with Julian.

Julian stared right back at him without an ounce of subtlety. In his clear, un-reddened eye, there was a blatant flash of smug provocation.

Miles broke eye contact, saying absolutely nothing.

He leaned back in his chair, letting his body merge into the shadows. He slowly rolled the beads of the Blessed Guardian Rosary between his fingers, one by one. His face was entirely devoid of emotion, yet an apocalyptic, world-ending fury radiated from him.

Mr. Whittaker's heart was practically beating out of his chest.

Why on earth was Ms. Jenner being so unbelievably oblivious today? She was practically tap-dancing on a landmine! She was going to get this entire West District auction shut down!

He wiped his brow with a handkerchief and cautiously muttered, "Ah, the youth. Young men these days just have absolutely no sense of boundaries."

He snapped his fingers to summon a waiter. "You. Go down to the gentleman sitting in the middle of the front row and give him a bottle of eye drops."

Downstairs, Julian murmured softly, "It's still a bit itchy."
