"Miles, wake up! She's using you!"
Miles slowly lifted his eyes.
"Are you done?"
His voice was perfectly level, devoid of any anger or surprise.
Vivian froze. What was that reaction supposed to mean?
"Dr. Langford," Miles stood up, his tone aloof and detached. "This is my personal business. I don't need you concerning yourself with it."
"Miles, I'm doing this for your own good!"
"Then thank you for your concern." Miles pulled the door open. "Have a good day."
Vivian's face flushed crimson. She bit her lip hard and walked out, looking thoroughly humiliated.
The door clicked shut, cutting off the noise from the hallway.
Miles leaned his back against the solid wood.
Claire only approached him because she needed a kidney donor.
How could he not know that?
From the very beginning, this was an approach with a clearly marked price tag.
Even if she came with an ulterior motive, he accepted it.
Miles walked over to the window, pulled out his phone, and dialed a familiar number.
"Mr. Lee, it's me. That kidney donor I asked you to locate—please expedite the process."
"Whatever the cost. If there are any developments, notify me immediately..."
Whatever she wanted, he would give her.
He would serve it up on a silver platter, entirely willing.
After wrapping up his work, Miles headed back to Claire's room.
She was leaning against the headboard, awkwardly scrolling on her phone with her uninjured left hand, her small face scrunched up in concentration.
Miles walked over and glanced at her screen; she was researching trends in the fabric market.
"Are you done working?" Claire looked up, her eyes brightening.
"Yeah. Let's go get you some food."
