It seemed the icy doctor wasn't so impenetrable after all.
She left the police station and headed straight to the design department at Sterling Holdings.
Jefferson Sterling was reviewing the latest design reports.
Dressed in a sharp suit, his cold gaze swept over her, lingering for a second on her bandaged arm.
"So you decided to show up to work?" he asked arrogantly.
"Your arm," he jutted his chin. "What happened?"
Claire didn't want to waste her breath. She tried to walk past him.
Jefferson stepped forward, blocking her path with a heavy frown.
"I asked what happened. What did the doctor say?"
"The doctor said I won't die. No need to worry yourself, Mr. Sterling."
"Claire!" Jefferson's suppressed anger flared. "Do you have to be so hostile? What good does pissing me off do you?"
"You're not a child. You don't need to use these cheap tricks to get my attention."
His voice dropped, softening slightly. "Since you're hurt, go home and rest. I'll handle things in the design department."
Claire stopped, her gaze freezing and impatient.
"You misunderstand, Mr. Sterling. I'm not here to work."
She enunciated every word.
"I'm here to pack my things. The stuff from my old office is in storage. I need the key."
A wave of emotion hit Jefferson.
"Claire, I've already given you full control of the Crescent Moon Couture project. What more do you want?"
"Just yield a little. You can have any office in the Sterling building, and any resources you need."
Seeing her remain utterly silent, a spike of panic hit his chest, though he quickly forced it down.
"Are you really planning to go to that hellhole in Westhaven Village?
"Think carefully, Claire. If you walk out of Sterling Holdings today, coming back won't be easy!"
Claire didn't even look back.
