Miles's grip was steady as he gently hauled the other girl onto the dry concrete.
Recognizing exactly who had saved her, the girl looked entirely overwhelmed, wild excitement lighting up her eyes.
She practically threw her curves against his chest, her voice dripping with seduction.
"Oh, thank you so much, Mr. Zimmerman. Your jacket is all wet... let me wipe that for you."
Miles's expression remained perfectly stoic as he offered a brief murmur of acknowledgment.
Thrilled, the girl pointed eagerly. "The locker rooms are just this way!"
Out of the corner of his eye, he cast one final, icy glance toward the figure still stranded in the middle of the freezing pool, then turned his back and walked away with the model.
A suffocating weight slammed into Claire's chest.
He hadn't missed her hand. He had ignored it.
This was pure, calculated retaliation.
Forcing down her emotions, she turned her attention to Nathan, whose face was thunderous on the deck. Tears of genuine exhaustion welled in her eyes, making her look incredibly fragile as she shivered violently.
"Nathan... I can't get up. It's so cold..."
Nathan had been ready to scream at her, but seeing her looking so helplessly enticing chipped away at his anger.
He stepped to the edge and grabbed her arm, muttering, "You're useless."
Using his leverage, Claire finally scrambled onto the deck. The very second her feet hit the solid ground, she feigned a clumsy slip. She flailed her arms, planting her hands squarely and forcefully against Nathan's chest.
Splash!
Thrown entirely off balance, Nathan tumbled backward into the deep end, sending a massive geyser of water into the air.
The crowd erupted into roars of laughter.
Nathan breached the surface, sputtering and humiliated. "Claire! You did that on purpose, you crazy bitch!"
Claire stood at the edge, staring down at him with an infuriatingly calm gaze.
"My apologies, Nathan. My hands slipped."
Without another word, she gathered the heavy, dripping fabric of her gown, straightened her spine, and walked away from the pool area.
Inside the private locker room.
