The Pack's Luna: The Pack Series Book 4 novel Chapter 34

Henry

I kiss her again, then hop to my feet. I reach out my hand and help her up.

“I guess I know what I’ll be doing this week,” she grumbles.

As we walk inside, I let her know that I want to stop in and see Connor on our way back to the Academy.

“No problem. Maybe we could stop for a late lunch since we’re just eating breakfast now?” she asks.

“What a great idea. Let me call him and confirm,” I say, grabbing my phone. “Oh, and I thought we could call Kennedy together on the way to Connor’s pack. That way, if you have any questions or concerns, you can ask her.”

She turns and smiles at me. “Always so thoughtful.”

“I do try.”

Connor agreed to have us come by for a late lunch, then we let Tyrus and Fallon run around the pack lands again.

I take advantage of our shower time to fuck my mate hard, the way she seems to like it, and then it’s time to leave. I know I still have several hours with her between going to Connor’s pack and driving her to the Academy, but I also know that our weekend together went by much too quickly. The pack follows us outside and I feel the shift in them. watch as the pack members come up to say goodbye to Piper, the overall feeling becoming melancholy now that she’s leaving

They’ve already accepted her as their Luna, Tyrus says, watching the pack and feeling their sadness at saying goodbye to Piper.

I wait patiently while she says goodbye to everyone who wants to hug her, wish her well, or tell her to come back soon. I wonder if we could spend one night at Yorick and Cyra’s pack next weekend then come home. The pack truly seems depressed that Piper is leaving.

When we get in the car and begin driving away, I call Kennedy.

“Hey, Henry,” she answers. I hear the sound of machines whirring in the background.

“Am I interrupting something?”

“Oh no. I’ve got the girls looking at the x-ray machine so they can see how it works. What can I do for you?”

“I have Piper here with me and we need some information about doing a paternity test for a pregnancy.”

She’s quiet a moment and the sound of the whirring machine mutes and I hear a door close.

“Is this about Justine?”I smile. People underestimate Kennedy because she’s sweet and kind. But she’s arguably the smartest of the Hilt children and right up there with her mother when it comes to brilliance.

“Yes. She showed up in my pack yesterday claiming to be pregnant with my child. I had Sissy take her to the pack hospital and my doctor confirmed that she’s pregnant.”

“Hey, Piper. I’m sorry you’re having to go through this,”

Kennedy says.

“Thank you, Luna,” Piper says, surprised that Kennedy acknowledged her difficulty with this. I’m not. That’s that kind of person Kennedy is.

* “Three weeks is standard, Henry. I would suggest that you determine the last time you had sex with Justine, protected or unprotected, and go three weeks from that date. I would also make sure it’s done by someone you trust.”

“Someone like you, you mean?” I ask, grinning.

“I would be happy to do this for you.”

“Thanks, Kennedy. I’ll figure out the date, then see if I can schedule Justine to come to my pack to do the DNA test.”

“You know that means an invasion of pups, right Henry?” she asks.

“You know I love your pups, right Kennedy? Plus, I’ll make Piper come to the pack so she can keep the hellions busy.”Kennedy laughs. “Those girls adore you, Piper. Every time your name comes up, which is more often now that Vivenne is here, they ask when you’re coming to visit again.”

“Aww, that’s so sweet. Tell them I said hi and i can’t wait to spar with them again,” Piper says.

“Oh, it’s not you, Henry. I’m not interested in getting into an argument with my father.”

“Do I dare ask what you’d be arguing about?” I ask her.

She chuckles humorlessly. “What don’t we argue about?

There is never a conversation that doesn’t end up with us arguing.”

I frown. That’s so opposite from what I’m used to, but it explains a lot about Piper and her initial difficulty trusting me, as well as some of the surprising lack of confidence that I see in her on occasion.

“Every conversation?” I ask.

“Pretty much. We argue and then he reminds me of what an utter disappointment l am to him.”

I slam on the brakes, throwing my arm in front of Piper so she doesn’t slam her head against the dashboard.

“HENRY!”

“THE FUCK YOU SAY?” I roar. “HE SAYS WHAT?”

“Henry is everything…” Connor, who came rushing over to see what happened, stops when he sees the look on my face. He takes a step back and I see Bosche push forward, responding to Tyrus being front and center. I snarl as | get out of the car and stalk around to the passenger side.

“What happened?” Connor asks, watching me closely.

I yank Piper out of the car and practically crush her against me.

“You are NOT a disappointment. You are the most amazing woman I have ever met in my entire life and when I meet your father, l’ll be happy to show him the error of his ways.”
