The Pack's Luna: The Pack Series Book 4 novel Chapter 407

Wendy

I expected my father to be here. I don’t know why I suddenly feel less secure without him here, but even knowing that Connor, Quirin, Henry, and Yorick are here, I don’t feel as safe as I would if my father were here.

I push that down as we head to Cyra’s old packhouse. Since everyone is in the new packhouse or out chasing Stellan, it’s quiet when we pull up. Quiet, except for the sounds of the alarms going off from inside the Alpha office.

“What do we do now?” I ask when I park in front of the packhouse. I turn and watch Jude as he works on his computer.

“We need to go inside and see what the alarms are saying,” he says.

“I can…” “}

“No! Wait for me, Wendy,” he says. Since he was clear earlier about us using codenames during an operation, I know that this is personal. He’s worried about me.

“My dad’s going to be really pissed that he wasn’t here.”

“Your dad will be more pissed if someone gets injured and it’s our job to make sure that doesn’t happen,” he says, grabbing his computer. “Come on, let’s go.”

We get out of the van and make our way inside. I thought we’d rush to the Alpha office, but Jude forces me to slow down. He lifts his nose in the air, searching for something.

“What are you sniffing for?” I ask.

“Stellan,” he growls.

“Do you smell him?” I whisper.

He doesn’t answer. Instead, he pushes me behind him and begins walking slowly into the abandoned packhouse, holding me against his back.

“Take my computer,” he says, handing it back to me. I do and look at the monitor that is still open.

“Heat source directly in front of us,” I whisper.

“Not in front. Look closer,” he says. Once again, he’s already seen what I haven’t.

I look again.

“He’s upstairs?”

“Yes,” he whispers.

I look again, trying to get a location on where he is.

“Is that… is that Landon and Lila’s room?”

“I think so,” he says.

“Do NOT approach, Hacker!” Raptor says in the earbud. I totally forgot we were connected to them.

“Venom, Intrigue, and Hellfire crossing the northern border of the pack,” Venom says.

“We’re almost there, Hacker. Do not do anything stupid!” Raptor says. “He’s here, Raptor. Even if we back out, he could come for us. Better to be on offense than defense,” Hacker murmurs.

He leads us to the stairwell that goes up to the ranked members’ rooms. As quietly as I can, I set the laptop down and close the cover. We know where Stellan is. Now it’s better if both Hacker and I have free hands to fight.

“We’re at the guard gate,” Raptor growls. I know he’s rushing to get here. He doesn’t like Hacker’s odds with me here. I’m a liability.

Hacker continues forward, keeping me pressed behind him as we begin climbing the stairs to the Gamma floor. When we get there, I hear the sound of destruction. It sounds like a wild animal has gotten into the packhouse and is tearing it apart. However, I know it’s Stellan and that scares me more than anything. If he’s this out of control, what happened to him. He used to be an Alpha. As an Alpha, I know that no matter what happened between me and Hacker, I would never do something like this.

Hacker stops and puts up a hand, letting me know to stay still and be quiet.

“We’re coming, Hacker. Do not engage!” Raptor says.

Unfortunately, at that moment, a very feral looking Stellan slams out of Landon and Lila’s bedroom. He’s panting heavily and frothing at the mouth.

“Feral,” Hacker confirms. I’m not sure if it’s meant for me or Raptor, but Raptor responds immediately.

“Hacker, get the fuck out of there. NOW!”

I understand that we can’t move. Any movement on our part will turn Stellan’s ire toward us. Instead, Hacker stands perfectly still, his body pressing mine against the wall so I can barely see what’s going on.

Unfortunately, Stellan turns and sees us. He snarls angrily, then leaps.

Jude shoves me aside and leaps to attack Stellan.

“JUDE!” I scream, as my body hits the ground.

“Thanks, Ken,” I say and turn on the video, showing her the nasty wound in Jude’s neck.

Raptor POV

I lost my comms when I shifted. It’s not ideal, but it wouldn’t be the first time that I’ve had to go after a target on my own.

Feral wolves have a smell. It’s like desperation, craziness, and a lack of empathy all rolled into one. They don’t care who they hurt or kill. They don’t care what they destroy. They only care about whatever they’re fixated on and based on him having been on the Gamma floor, Stellan is fixated on Lila. He may want Cyra dead, but he WANTS Lila.

I remember in the court room how he’d gone crazy when she’d rejected him. Then, she returned to court smelling so strongly of Landon that no one could doubt that they were marked and mated. Now, she has a pup, and I have no doubt that he smelled that pup on this floor. Landon’s pup, not his. As a feral wolf, it would send him over the edge, which is what seems like has happened.

The problem with feral wolves is they are not predictable. They do things that regular wolves wouldn’t think to do and as I run south, thinking about the landscape around us, I realize there is an overhang, not quite a cliff, that hangs over a deep, fast- moving river. I don’t want to think that Stellan is going to jump into that river, but as a feral wolf being hunted, I’d guess he will if he gets there before I can stop him.

Behind me, I hear howls of the hunt. I’m guessing those are Striker, Alpha Quirin, Alpha Henry, and Alpha Connor. Father behind them, I hear more howls – Venom, Intrigue, and Hellfire. My team is here. 5

Stellan must hear them too because he’s suddenly pushing even harder and he begins pulling away from me.

As I watch, it’s as I expected. He has no sense of self-preservation. I howl a warning, but he doesn’t listen. Instead, he leaps off the overhang. I skid to a stop, watching as his wolf plummets to the river below and slams against the turbulent water before sinking underneath the current.

I stand, watching as Siren’s wolf, Nadia, runs up beside me. We’re a team, but we don’t have a mind link, so I shift. “Do you see him, Nadia?” I ask her.

She steps up to the cliff as several Alpha wolves rush up to us. She chuffs which I know means she doesn’t see anything. “He jumped,” I tell the group of Alphas.

A black wolf looks ready to jump in after him, but the other three stop him.

“Don’t do it Alpha Quirin. Stellan will be lucky to survive and you have a pack full of pups and a mate to return to,” I say, knowing it’s him. He’s crazy enough to do it.

“Let’s get back to the packhouse. Hacker was injured and I need to let my mate know that Stellan got away,” I say.

Alpha Yorick shifts. “How badly is Hacker injured?”

“Bad enough that your sister wouldn’t leave his side I’m hoping she called your mom. Let’s go.”

We both leap and shift and all of us begin racing back to the packhouse to see if Hacker is going to make it and if we can find any more clues about where Stellan went.
