The Prime Minister's Darling novel Chapter 789

Chapter 789: 366 Jiaojiao Makes a Move (Second Update)_3

Gu Chengfeng asked, "What are you planning to steal from her?"

Gu Jiao replied, "Medicine."

"Medicine?" Gu Chengfeng examined her from head to foot, skeptically asking, "You’re a doctor yourself, why do you need to steal someone else’s medicine?"

"So, can we get in or not?" Gu Jiao was getting impatient.

"I’ve never tried..." Gu Chengfeng had never even been to the Imperial Palace, let alone a nunnery guarded by the Dragon Shadow Guard.

Beating him was out of the question—

But as for concealing one’s presence—

Gu Chengfeng took a deep look at the young girl beside him, sighed in exasperation as he looked up at the sky.

Truth be told, he could see himself dying someday, either out of frustration with this girl or due to her actions.

Gu Chengfeng wrapped his arm around Gu Jiao’s slender waist: "Do not make a sound or breathe."

Gu Jiao nodded.

Gu Chengfeng gazed at the intimidating nunnery, his eyes focused, then he and Gu Jiao stealthily entered.

Gu Jiao didn’t expect that he could actually bring her in under the watchful eyes of the Dragon Shadow Guard. Even the old Marquis was unable to avoid alarming the Dragon Shadow Guard when he was here alone.

Gu Jiao suddenly gained new respect for Gu Chengfeng. His martial arts skills were truly remarkable.

The hastily built nunnery wasn’t notably large and its layout wasn’t complex. With minimal effort, Gu Chengfeng located the Lady of Silence’s room.

Perhaps they were lucky, the Lady of Silence happened not to be in her room, she had gone to the small Buddha Hall to chant sutras.

Both Gu Chengfeng and Gu Jiao entered the room.

"What does the medicine you’re looking for look like?" Gu Chengfeng asked.

"I’m not sure." She had forgotten to ask Lady Nan, "She’s not a doctor, she shouldn’t have that many different types of medication. Just find them all."

They started searching the room.

They quickly found some burn ointment and wound healing medication, and blood replenishing pills, but there were no unfamiliar medicines that Gu Jiao hadn’t seen before.

"Could she be carrying them on her?" Gu Jiao muttered.

As soon as she finished her sentence, Gu Chengfeng tapped her shoulder, pointing her to look at the wardrobe.

Gu Jiao’s gaze fell upon the wardrobe. It looked quite ordinary at first, but something about it gave Gu Jiao a strange feeling.

Gu Chengfeng whispered, "You find it odd too, don’t you?"

She nodded.

She stared intently at the wardrobe for a while, not approaching it but stepping back several paces.

"I see what’s odd now. The patterns on the wardrobe doors are reversed," she said.

The designs on the two doors were each half of a pattern and should have formed a full moon facing each other. Instead, the halved moons faced outward on either side.

It created an unsettling sight, making one not want to look at it a second time.

Gu Jiao approached, her hands brushed against the two halves of the moon, and with a reverse twist, the moons turned upright, forming a bright, full moon.

With a "pop," the wardrobe door opened.

Gu Chengfeng had opened it earlier, it was filled with clothes, but this time it looked different—a thick door opened along with the body of the wardrobe.

There was a hidden compartment built into the wall.

Gu Chengfeng has long arms, he reached out, opened the hidden compartment, and took out a small box.

"Someone’s coming!" Gu Jiao suddenly exclaimed!

There wasn’t enough time to open the small box, nor to take it with them. If anyone discovered it was missing and alarm the Dragon Shadow Guard, their lives would be in great peril.

Gu Chengfeng returned the small box to its place, shut the wardrobe door, and restored the illustration, then he took Gu Jiao and used his lightness skill to get up to the roof beams.

The door was pushed open.

A maid named Cai walked in.

"Okay, just give me the Lady’s clothes. You, go check if the medication soup for the Lady is ready."

Gu Jiao unplugged the two bottles and poured a pill from each onto her hand.

Gu Chengfeng frowned, "They look the same, why are they separated into two bottles?"

Indeed, they did look alike - they were both deep-brown pills.

"Try smelling them." Gu Jiao placed the two pills underneath Gu Chengfeng’s nose, one by one.

Gu Chengfeng sniffed, "It’s just medicine, so what?"

"Do they smell different?" Gu Jiao asked.

"No, they don’t." Gu Chengfeng shook his head decisively.

Actually, there was a difference, but very subtle. Only someone highly knowledgeable about medicine would be able to discern it.

If Gu Chengfeng couldn’t identify it, Empress Jing certainly couldn’t either.

Gu Jiao smirked evilly and thought that she was initially going to steal the medicine, but now, she had a change of heart.

This was the end. This girl was up to no good again. Who knew which unlucky fellow was about to have some terrible luck.

Gu Chengfeng shook his head and continued studying the small box, suddenly exclaimed, "There’s something else in the box."

He opened the concealed compartment of the box and pulled out a tightly rolled yellow scroll. It was an imperial edict.

Gu Chengfeng was dumbstruck, "Why does Empress Jing have an imperial edict?"

He hadn’t heard of any edict given to Empress Jing by the current Emperor.

This edict seemed to be quite old.

A thought suddenly hit Gu Chengfeng: "I just remembered something... this is just a rumour among the common folks."

"What is it?" Gu Jiao asked.

This little lady was always so impatient.

Gu Chengfeng smirked and said, "Before the late emperor died, he decreed that Empress Mother should be buried with him. Empress Jing risked her life to steal and burn the edict, thus sparing Empress Mother’s life."

He then burst into a laughter, "Do you think what’s in the box is... the very edict that had been burnt, the one that threatened Empress Mother’s life?"
