Chapter 1640: Noctis Fear (1)

This trap was out in the open, but it was undeniably a test, and Rowan knew that he was currently failing it. Yet it was not a hopeless situation for him, because Rowan was also testing the power of Death, and the limits he could push himself before he needed to use his trump cards.

His body and soul now resembled a corpse that had refused to collapse into dust, held together by an impossible willpower. Rowan kept himself in the realm of the living with a percentage of his life, refusing to go any lower to avoid any unforeseen occurrence.

If he was ambushed, which was a situation that was not highly likely, then he wanted to be able to respond quickly. Even with the permission of Death to leave the realm, Rowan could not relax his vigilance.

’Okay, I have seen the limits of my strength; it is time to leave.’

Rowan’s eyes had already collapsed into pits of darkness as the decay from all the death energy had vaporized them, and from these empty sockets, twin flames bloomed.

His right eye carried a purple flame, and his left eye had a greenish-golden flame, which represented his two bloodline powers, Chronomancer Prime and Serathis.

Throughout his battle with the Thrones of the Primordials, he had never unleashed any of his bloodline powers, strictly restricting himself to using only the strength of his dimensional flesh and the power of his Destroyer.

If he had used his bloodline powers, then it would be difficult to ascertain who would come out on top, but the battle was more of a fact-finding mission, as his ultimate destination was not just to kill the Thrones of Primordial or to create the New Light, but it was to meet Death.

The power of these two bloodlines had always been fused into his flesh, but only now did he begin to employ it.

Waves of eldritch powers emerged from his eyes as the domain of death began to transform around Rowan, as a power that stood on the same level as Death radiated from his body.

Presently, Rowan had less than a single percent of his lifeforce left, and the Bleak Gate that had been pushed only a sliver would not go any further unless that last percent of his life force vanished.

Rowan grinned and eliminated the last portion of his life force, and the gate was pushed back a few inches. The realm of death shuddered as if in celebration, but Rowan’s body, which was about to be merged with the realm, shuddered as life force reignited in his body from nowhere, and the gate that had been slowly opening was jammed, and the resistant force exploded, much fiercer than before.

However, Rowan extinguished his life force again, and the resistance force vanished. The gate was pushed back further, but before Death could claim Rowan, his life force returned.

The Bleak Gate screamed its rage as a resistance force was about to erupt, but Rowan’s life force disappeared.

This happened dozens of times, and Rowan could feel the madness arising from the gate, but it followed the rules of the Realm of Death when nothing was holding Rowan from abusing the rules.

What he was doing was undoubtedly dangerous. He was killing himself and reversing the time around him to a moment before he died using Chronomancer Prime, but he was in the realm of Death, and this was like playing Russian roulette with a gun whose entire chambers was filled with bullet, this should have meant suicide, but somehow anytime Rowan pulled the trigger, the bullet froze in the chambers.

Rowan employed the power of Serathis to make sure the power of luck was in his favor. Boosted by the power of his Fate, Rowan could stare down death every time and always find a way to escape.

When Rowan left the Realm of Death, the screams of rage from the Bleak Gate did not end for a long time.

Noctis had been watching Rowan’s body for the last fifteen years like a hawk, disregarding the voice of his castle and anything around him. After a while, a deep frown slowly took over his features, and his eyes were filled with confusion.
