I was winning.

For the first time since the battle began, I was truly winning. My royal bloodline had fully awakened, flooding my veins with ancient power that made every movement precise, every strike devastating. Asher was retreating, his confidence cracking as I pressed the advantage. Adrian fought beside me…two Alphas, two mates, perfectly in sync. This was how it was meant to be. This was how we would end it. I could already taste victory on my tongue, sharp and sweet. Asher was going to die here, and we would deliver that death together.
Then the trap sprang.
Asher feinted left with a snarl. I followed, committing too fully. In that split second, three of his wolves exploded from the shadows, perfectly coordinated. Their combined weight slammed into me like a landslide. I crashed to the blood-soaked ground, the impact rattling my bones and scattering my focus. The royal power flickered under the sudden onslaught. Four against one-even with my enhanced strength was overwhelming. Claws tore into my sides, jaws snapped dangerously close to my throat. I fought back with feral desperation, twisting and slashing, but they were too many, too coordinated.
Panic clawed at my chest. ‘Not now. Not when everyone needs me.” Adrian was already badly wounded, barely holding his own across the field. He couldn’t reach me in time. Through our bond I felt his terror spike, raw and helpless, as he watched me being dragged down.
I surged with everything I had left, throwing two wolves off me and snapping the neck of a third in a spray of blood. But Asher was already there. His massive jaws locked around my throat with crushing force, teeth sinking deep. Agony exploded through me as bones cracked and blood poured into my airway. The world narrowed to the sound of my own choking breaths and the relentless pressure of his bite.
*I’m sorry, Adrian.* The thought tore through our bond, drenched in sorrow. *I love you. I’m so sorry…*
Death hovered inches away, cold, inevitable, final. I could feel my heartbeat slowing, my strength bleeding out onto the
battlefield.
Then the mating bond flared.
A brilliant, searing heat exploded between us, far stronger than anything I had ever felt. Even though I had never marked Adrian, the incomplete bond refused to let me go. His strength poured into me, raw Alpha power, wild and instinctive, keeping my heart beating when it should have stopped. I gasped, lungs burning, as life flooded back into my broken body. But the cost was immediate and devastating. I felt Adrian weakening across the field, his life force draining to sustain mine. He was already dying, and the bond was killing him faster to save me.

Asher sensed the change. Confusion flashed in his eyes, quickly replaced by rage. He bit down harder, trying to finish what be had started, but the bond held me in a fragile, temporary shield.
Then the pack came.
What remained of our wolves..bloody, exhausted, and half broken charged toward us. Emma led them, her young face set with fierce determination. She slammed into Asher’s side without hesitation, followed by Kelvin, Dr. Chen, Chiet Winters, asc every wolf still able to stand. Their attack was desperate, almost suicidal, but it worked. Asher released my throat with a furious roar and turned on thein.
Emma went down first, a vicious blow sending her tumbling Kelvin threw himself in front of her, taking the next strike meant for the young wolf. Blood sprayed. More of our people fell. They were dying for me, for their Luna, and I could barely move.
ì dragged myself upright, legs trembling, vision blurring. Adrian appeared beside me in human form and collapsed to his knees He was in far worse shape than I was organs exposed, blood streaming from countless wounds. Yet he crawled the last few fert until he could pull me into his arms. His hands, slick with blood, cupped my tace with heartbreaking tenderness
“I’m sorry,” he whispered, voice cracking. “I tailed you. I failed everyone I love you, Freya More than anything

Tears burned my eyes as I gripped his hand, our blood mixing together. “You didn’t fail. You fought with everything. You loved with everything. That’s more than enough.” My voice broke. “I love you too. Forever. Even in this.”
