CHAPTER 33
FREYA’S POV
I adjusted on the bus stop bench, the cold metal pressing hard against my back through my thin jacket. It’s uncomfortable but I don’t even flinch. I was ready for any pain this night
My legs gave out three blocks ago, I Can’t walk anymore, I can’t even think anymore, I Can’t do anything except sit here and watch normal people live normal lives.
I watched a mom stroll past with her baby giggling away so full of joy. It was a sweet sight, almost heartwarming… until it reminded me that maybe happiness like that just isn’t meant for me.
I’m so tired.
Adrian let me go. Actually stepped aside and let me walk out. That should feel like winning.
But It doesn’t.
I dont know what I want
A black car pulls up across the street looking Expensive. The kind that makes you look twice.
The door opens with a Blonde hair, Perfect clothes. Heels that as perfectly carved as she was.
Vanessa.
My stomach drops.
No.
Not her.
Not now.
She doesn’t even check for cars just walks straight through.
Everything about her screams money and power and don’t-mess-with-me.
I want to run. But my legs won’t move.
“Freya Reed.” She stops in front of me. Not a question. “We need to talk.”
“I’ve got nothing to say to you.”
“Good thing I’m doing the talking then.” She sits down next to me without asking. Her perfume was expensive and choking. Makes my throat tight. “You look awful. Sleeping on the streets?”
“What do you want?”
“To give you advice. Friendly advice.” Her smile doesn’t reach her eyes. “Stay away from my husband.”

I almost laughed. Would if I had the energy. “Your husband cheated on me. In my bed. I want nothing to do with him.”
“Then why’d you meet him? Why sit there in that restaurant looking at him like”
“That was a mistake.”
“Was it?she screamed out as she grabbed my wrist.
Pain explodes up my arm. I try to pull away. But I couldn’t.
“What are you”
“Sit. Down.” Her voice drops.
I freeze, staring at her hand crushing my wrist. At the strength that shouldn’t be possible.
“You’re one of them.”
She smiles with a hint of mockery. “Very good. Yes. I’m a werewolf. Unlike you, still playing human.”
“Let go of me.”
“In a minute.” She leans closer. “Do you know what it took to secure my marriage? The alliances? The planning? And you’re ruining everything.”
“I’m not”
“Asher’s plan to kill you was supposed to be clean. Quick. But you keep surviving. Keep causing
problems.”
The world tilts. “You know about”
“I’m part of it.” She says it like discussing dinner plans. “You think Kelvin suddenly wanted to apologize? That was me. Every word he said. Every look. All me.”
Oh god.
“That restaurant. You were”
“Trying to kill you. Obviously.” She examines her nails. Perfect manicure. “Would’ve worked if Adrian hadn’t shown up.”
I can’t breathe. Can’t process this. She just admitted to planning my murder. Right here. On a public
street.
“Why are you telling me this?”
“Because you need to understand something.” She releases my wrist as she stands. Brushes off her skirt. “You have twenty-four hours. Run far away leave the country, disappear forever. Or stay and die. Those are your options.”

“Adrian can’t protect you forever.” Her smile widens. Sharpens. “And you keep running from him anyway. You’re doing our job for us.”
She starts walking toward her car. Stops. Looks back.
“Twenty-four hours. Choose wisely.”
The car door shuts. Engine purrs. Gone.
I sit there. Hands shaking. Wrist throbbing. Mind racing.
Twenty-four hours to run or die.
A woman just threatened my life like ordering coffee. Admitted to trying to kill me. Smiled while doing it.
And I’m completely alone.
I pushed away the one person who could protect me. The one person who wanted to. All because I was scared. Because I saw the monster and forgot the man underneath.
Stupid. I’m so stupid.
My legs work now. Adrenaline finally kicking in. I stand. Start walking.
No direction. Just movement. Away from that bench. Away from Vanessa’s words. Away from the choice she gave me.
Except I can’t run from choices. Can’t run from anything anymore.
My feet carry me down streets I don’t recognize. Past buildings I’ve never seen. Until I stop and look up.
Adrian’s building.
Tall. Glass. Safe.
The place I swore I’d never return to.
