CHAPTER 68

FREYA’S POV

Three days after the Council meeting and I still can’t shake the feeling of helplessness.

Adrian is strong. The pack is loyal. But against the High Council? Against centuries of power and influence? We need more than strength and loyalty.

We need an edge.

I’m in the kitchen making coffee when Chief Winters finds me. He’s been with Adrian’s pack for decades. Older wolf. Graying hair. Quiet but respected. He rarely speaks unless he has something important to say.

“Miss Reed. A word?” His voice is low. Careful. Like he doesn’t want anyone else to hear.

“Of course Chief.” I pour a second cup. Hand it to him. “What’s on your mind?”

He glances around. Makes sure we’re alone. Then leans closer. “I know a way to help. To give you an advantage against the Council. Against Asher. Against anyone who threatens you and the Alpha.”

My heart speeds up. “I’m listening.”

“Your wolf. It’s suppressed. Bound. Keeping you vulnerable. Keeping you from reaching your full potential.” He takes a sip of coffee. “What if I told you there’s a way to awaken it? Without completing the mate bond. Without waiting for it to emerge naturally.” 1

“That’s possible?”

“Difficult. Dangerous. But possible.” His eyes meet mine. “I have a contact. A witch who specializes in supernatural bindings. She helped my daughter once when her wolf was blocked by trauma. She could do the same for you.”

A witch. Magic. A ritual to force my wolf awake.

It sounds too good to be true. “What’s the catch?”

“Pain. The process is agonizing. Your body isn’t ready for a full awakening. It will fight back. Resist. You could be unconscious for days recovering.” He sets down his cup. “And there’s risk. If something goes wrong your wolf could emerge wrong. Unstable. Dangerous.”

“But if it works? If my wolf awakens properly?”

“Then you’re not just Alpha Metcalfe’s human mate anymore. You’re a wolf. With power. With standies pack hierarchy. The Council can’t dismiss you as easily. Can’t claim you’re unworthy.” He pauses. “And in a fight? You’d be formidable. Your bloodline is strong Freya. Royal. If your wolf awakens felly you’d be a force to be reckoned with.”

Everything I need. Everything that could change our situation. Turn us from vulnerable targets into genuine threats,

But dangerous. Risky And Adrian would never agree to this.

“When can we do it?” The words are out before I fully think them through.

Chief Winters studies me. “You’re not going to tell the Alpha are you?”.

“He’d stop be. Wouldn’t let me risk it “I meet his gaze steadily. “But this is my choice. My body. My wolf (mand to do this “1’ll be furious when he finds out

“I know. I’ll deal with that later” Teros, my arms. “When cau the witch comme
