The Reclaimed Rose (Annalise and Steven) novel Chapter 290

When Zane looked back, Chloe just happened to be looking in his and Annalise's direction. He looked away again without batting an eyelid.

First, Steven, and now, Chloe…

There had been more and more random people showing up at the company lately. It seemed he would have to let the employees of the security department know to strengthen the company's security measures.

As I walked side by side with Zane, he looked at me and asked, "Why was she looking for you?"

"She didn't mention her reasons," I replied honestly. "But she started accusing me right off the bat. She told me that I was heartless and that I didn't love my son. From the looks of it, she was probably hoping that Steven and I would get back together."

Zane asked, perplexed, "Didn't she really like Jessica before?"

I nodded. "But no matter how much she likes Jessica, Steven and Zachary always come first to her.

"Jessica doesn't treat Zachary well, so her treatment of him would inevitably distress her. That's probably why she came up with the idea of getting me to return to the Pelhams, so I could continue to serve them and be bullied by them."

I scoffed at that. "But I'm no fool."

When I was in love, suffering a little grievance didn't matter. However, now that I no longer loved Steven, I naturally couldn't stand to suffer one bit.

Zane said in agreement, "You're very smart."

"Of course," I said, calmly accepting his praise. "I'm going to buy something from the mall later. Will you be coming with me?"

Zane thought for a moment, then smiled faintly as he replied, "Sure."

There were plenty of things for sale at the mall.

I had originally intended to buy some snacks so that I could eat them while watching some series once I had some free time after finishing up my drawings. However, when I reached the toy section, I gradually slowed to a stop.

Zane took my phone from me, saying casually, "If you're going to spend so much, then let me do the honor instead. Willow has a friend as well. Let's buy two sets of toys so that the two of them can play together.

"Otherwise, wouldn't the cons outweigh the pros if they ended their friendship because they were fighting over the toys?"

I thought it over carefully, finding his reasoning to be logical.

He walked over to the person-in-charge of the toy section and informed him of his request, then asked, "Can you send the toys over to my house?"

The person-in-charge answered excitedly, "No problem!"

After receiving confirmation, Zane then asked, "Then, how do I settle the bill?"

The person-in-charge promptly led him toward the checkout counter. There weren't many people around at the moment, so the staff arranged for a counter to be cleared out specially for him.

Once he had paid and given the staff his address, he called Milton and asked if he was home.
