The Regretful Housewife: Divorce and Rise Again novel Chapter 156

Chapter 156 A Brilliant Move

Chapter 156 A Brilliant Move

Katrina broke down in tears, looking utterly wronged as if she had suffered endless hardships.

Nina watched her coldly.

In her past life, she had lost everything she held dear. Back then, she had begged Katrina just like this, yet what had she gotten in

return?

Katrina had simply pushed her hands away, sneering that she had grown plain and could no longer hold her husband’s heart.

Nina shook her head gently and spoke softly, “I truly feel sorry for what you’ve been through, Katrina. But if Chase only has eyes for me, there is nothing I can do. Perhaps you just failed to keep your husband’s affection.”

Katrina froze on the spot the moment those words left Nina’s mouth.

By the time she snapped out of her daze, Nina had already turned and walked away.

What exactly did Nina mean by that?

Could it be that Nina really has feelings for Chase?

No way. I will never let anyone take my place. I will never allow it to happen.

Caleb had driven over to pick Nina up and waited outside the café. Seeing her come out so soon, he looked quite confused. “What did you two talk about? Why did it end so quickly?”

“Chase is getting desperate. He’s planning to slip me drugs.”

“What?” Caleb’s anger flared up instantly. “How could he be so shameless? I’ll send people over to the Mercer Villa right now and teach him a proper lesson.”

“There’s no need to rush,” Nina said calmly. “Mercer Group has taken hit after hit lately. They even lost their biggest business partner to The T Company today. It’s only natural that he’s in such a hurry to marry me.”

“You can’t just let him get away with this. What if his dirty plan actually works?”

“I would never let him succeed that easily. But think about it–what if solid proof of his infidelity gets exposed? Things would get far more interesting then.”

“You mean…”

“The last scandal already damaged Mercer Group’s reputation badly. If new evidence surfaces this time, Chase will lose all his public respect. Everyone knows he used to flaunt his loving marriage with Katrina in front of the media. Once the truth comes out, he will drag the entire Mercer Group down into disgrace with him.”

Caleb nodded slowly, finally grasping her plan.

It is truly a brilliant move.

That evening, Nina indeed received a text message from Chase. He invited her to attend a private dinner party held at the Mercer Villa the next day.

The party was specially arranged to celebrate Katrina’s birthday.

Due to the previous negative news, Mercer Group had been busy doing damage control to restore Chase’s public image.

Now that public opinion had gradually calmed down, Chase held this party simply to show everyone how harmonious his married

life was.

Having seen straight through his scheme, Nina agreed to the invitation without hesitation, acting completely out of character.

In past years, Chase always threw grand birthday parties for Katrina to maintain his image as a devoted husband. He would even invite plenty of reporters to take photos and boost his good reputation.

This time, desperate to fix his tarnished name, he would surely invite even more media guests.

A faint cold smile tugged at the corner of Nina’s lips.

Chase, you will soon regret every choice you’ve made.

Back at the Mercer Villa, servants busied themselves decorating the venue for the birthday celebration. Chase wandered around giving detailed instructions, putting on a perfect show of a loving husband for everyone present.

Only Katrina, who had just walked down from the second floor, knew he was merely pretending.

They had not shared the same bedroom for three whole months, and Chase never even wanted to get close to her anymore.

“Did you invite Nina over this time?” Katrina asked in a soft, docile tone as she stepped up to him.

Chase made no effort to hide the truth. “I did.”

His cold reply stung her deeply. She held back her frustration and forced a weak smile. “I’d rather she didn’t come. Cancel the invitation please.”

“I invited her for the sake of the company’s future,” Chase explained. “If Mercer Group can form a partnership with the Tann Group, we won’t have to keep getting pushed around by The T Company anymore.”

Hearing those hypocritical excuses, Katrina could no longer hold back her disdain and let out a cold laugh. “Is it really for the company’s future? Chase, don’t make me sick. You know perfectly well why you want her here.”
