Chapter 158 Awkward Excuses
Cecilia stepped forward to chat with Iris and stall for time. Ethan stayed right beside his wife, gazing at her with nothing but tend affection, never once looking away.
“Mr. Lynn, why don’t we step aside and talk business?” Chase urged eagerly, desperate to seal the partnership.
Ethan looked reluctant to leave his wife’s side. “Wait here for me, honey. I’ll be right back.”
“Sure, go ahead.” Iris smiled softly and watched him walk off. She then turned to Cecilia. “Mr. Mercer is truly young and accomplished, so driven in his career. What’s more, he and his wife share such a loving marriage and have a lovely child. It’s truly enviable.”
“They could never compare to you and your husband,” Cecilia replied with flattery, yet her eyes kept darting toward the entrance There was still no sign of Katrina, and irritation welled up inside her.
Is that woman deliberately trying to embarrass Chase in front of everyone? Why is she still nowhere to be found?
Though burning with frustration, Cecilia kept a pleasant smile on her face and carried on the conversation.
“Mr. Lynn, regarding the cooperation we discussed earlier…”
Chase had barely finished his sentence when murmurs and gasps broke out by the door.
“That must be the heiress of the Tann family. She’s absolutely stunning.”
“I’ve heard so much about her ever since she came back home. Seeing her in person is even more breathtaking.”
Nina had dressed up elegantly for the occasion. Her rose-hued long gown exuded pure grace and noble charm. Even Chase could not help but feel his heart skip a beat at the sight of her.
She walked straight toward Cecilia and Iris. A warm smile spread across Iris’ face the moment she recognized her. “Ms. Tann, I never expected to see you here tonight. It’s such a pleasure.”
Iris reached out to shake her hand. Nina smiled gently in return. “Mrs. Lynn, my mom said you left something behind when you played cards with her last time, so she asked me to bring it over to you.”
“What
Nina held out a huge diamond ring. Cecilia quickly chimed in with admiration, “What a magnificent gemstone. It must be worth a fortune. This truly shows how deeply Mr. Lynn cares for you.”
Iris’ cheeks flushed lightly. She knew full well how devoted her husband was to her, yet being praised and admired by others still filled her with joy.
“You silly girl,” she said in a playful, soft tone. “You could have brought this earlier instead of choosing such a busy moment. You’re making me the center of attention for no reason.”
Her words sounded like gentle reproach, yet her eyes were brimming with sweet happiness. Everyone in their social circle already knew how thoughtful Ethan was toward her, and she was more than happy to have their loving bond witnessed by others
“Isn’t today Katrina’s birthday?” Nina spoke up casually. “Mrs. Mercer, why hasn’t she shown up yet?”
Her words instantly drew everyone’s attention. The grand party was held to celebrate Katrina’s birthday, yet she was nowhere in sight, which felt rather inappropriate.

Inis only offered a faint polite smile, saying nothing more, though she already felt slightly displeased deep down.
Cecilia smiled awkwardly and glanced over at Chase. She grew anxious seeing him staring fixedly at Nina. If Katrina did soon, the whole family would lose face completely
“Is Ms Tann a close friend of yours as well?” Ethan asked.
Chase hesitated briefly before answering cautiously. “She is a good friend of my wife’s. We went to high school together .
