The couple paid no heed to their surroundings, utterly wrapped up in their affection for each other.

Soon the melody came to an end. Nina stood up and bowed gently to the crowd.

The song finished, yet there was still no sign of Katrina. Cecilia grew extremely flustered, and Chase had yet to come back downstairs. Iris had taken quite a liking to Nina by then and stepped forward to talk to her.

“You play the piano so beautifully. Did you learn this overseas?”

“I only know a little bit of basic skills. I heard you and Mr. Lynn were college classmates, and you were both members of the piano club back then. My mom always talks about your sweet campus romance and admires it so much. It even puts my dad in an awkward spot sometimes.”

Iris smiled from ear to ear, touched that people still remembered those old stories from over a decade ago.

“Mr. Mercer and Mrs. Mercer seem so loving too. Speaking of which, where has Mr. Mercer gone?”

The mention of Chase and Katrina threw Cecilia into a panic. “He went upstairs to sign some documents. I’ll send someone to call him right away. We can’t keep all our guests waiting like this.”

She quickly signaled a maid to head upstairs and fetch Chase. Nina wore a faint smile and kept chatting casually with Iris.

Shortly after the maid went up, a frightened scream echoed from the upper floor.

The maid stumbled downstairs looking terrified. Cecilia frowned sharply. “What’s wrong with you? Why are you running around in such a panic?”

The maid’s face had turned pale with fright. She pointed tremblingly toward the stairs. “Mr. Mercer… he’s…”

Thinking something terrible had happened to her son, Cecilia rushed upstairs in a hurry. Several other guests followed, and Iris went along to check as well.

Word quickly spread downstairs, and every guest present could easily guess what shameful thing had just taken place upstairs between Chase and his female secretary.

“This is all a misunderstanding! I was set up!” Chase stammered frantically trying to defend himself.

He tried to get out of bed in a rush, leaving himself exposed. Iris immediately covered her eyes in embarrassment. Nina stepped forward to escort her back downstairs, casting Chase a cold, disappointed glance before leaving.

Chase wanted to rush after them to explain himself, but Cecilia raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face.

“You foolish boy! Hurry up and get dressed at once!”

Dazed by her anger, Chase quickly pulled his clothes on Cecilia then turned her rage toward Lucy, who was still sitting on the bed trying to cover herself. She strode over and grabbed Lucy firmly by the hair.

“It’s all your doing, you scheming bitch! I knew you had bad intentions all along! Since The T Company turned you down, you’ve been plotting nonstop to stir up trouble for my son! You dream of taking Katrina’s place? Don’t you ever dare to harbor such foolish thoughts!”

Her harsh, vulgar words reached everyone’s ears. She was still burning with rage, and when the maid tried to step forward to calm her down, Cecilia slapped her across the face.

“How could you stand by and let him act so shamelessly? Now the whole crowd is mocking our entire family! How useless can you be working for us!”
