She patted Nina’s hand. “I’ll go get my seal and the original share agreements. Just wait here for a moment, dear.”
Nina nodded obediently.
The second Cecilia left, the sweet smile on Nina’s face disappeared. She calmly took a sip of coffee.
All that talking had left her throat dry.
Still, everything had gone exactly as planned.
“Ms. Tann…” Preston started to speak, but Nina cut him off with a look.
He immediately fell silent.
Cecilia hurried out of the bedroom and quickly finalized the contract.
Only after receiving the original share agreement between the Tann and Mercer families did Nina finally smile. At last, the Tanns were completely free of any ties to the Mercers.
“Nina, about the money…” Cecilia’s eyes were full of expectation.
“Mrs. Mercer, don’t worry. The funds will be transferred soon,” Nina said calmly. “But we should be clear on one thing first. The Mercers are in a tight spot right now–I doubt you can come up with the two hundred million you owe Tann Group all at once.”
Cecilia nodded in agreement. They truly didn’t have that kind of cash on hand.
“So here are two options,” Nina continued. “First, we deduct it from the one billion we’re returning to the Mercers. Second, you can treat the two hundred million as a debt. I’ll have a lawyer draw up a contract, and you can put up assets from Mercer Group of equal value as collateral.”
“Then we’ll go with collateral,” Cecilia chose almost without hesitation.
Exactly as Nina had expected.
She knew Cecilia well. The Mercers urgently needed the one billion in cash–there was no way Cecilia would accept receiving two hundred million less. Besides, Cecilia still saw the Tanns as easy to push around, assuming this collateral was nothing more than a formality.

She had no idea what was coming for the Mercer family.

“Alright.” Nina turned to Preston, who stood behind her with a laptop. “Is the contract ready based on what we just discussed?”
“It’s done.”
Preston pulled up the freshly drafted contract and placed it in front of both Nina and Cecilia.
“Print it out,” Nina said. “Mrs. Mercer, if everything looks good, we can sign today. That way, we can transfer the funds to your account as soon as possible.”
Cecilia nodded repeatedly. She didn’t really understand contracts–so long as the terms favored the Mercer family, that was enough for her.
Nina sipped her coffee unhurriedly. Only after Cecilia carefully reviewed the document, stamped it, and signed her name did Nina allow herself a satisfied smile.
“Mrs. Mercer, for the collateral, let’s use the five properties your family owns downtown and three of your cars. Though… it still feels a bit short. That might be a problem.”
Seeing Nina hesitate, Cecilia quickly spoke up, afraid she might back out. “I still have some jewelry put away–very valuable pieces. They’re worth at least twenty million. Wait here, I’ll go get them for you.”
Nina nodded. “That should be enough then. Preston, please make a note of it.”
“Yes, Ms. Tann.”
Preston quickly added everything Cecilia had just mentioned into the contract terms.
Once Cecilia had signed and stamped it, Nina stood up. “As soon as the official seal is in place, we’ll transfer the funds to Mercer Group’s account. Mrs. Mercer, I’ll be on my way now.”
“You’re leaving already? Won’t you stay for dinner and wait for Chase to get back?”
“No, thank you,” Nina replied with a polite smile. Then she left the Mercer family villa with Preston.
