Chapter 121

– ÁTILA

“How did you know I was here?”

She tilted her head lightly, like she was studying my mood, then brushed her hair over one

“I stopped by your apartment this morning,” she said casually. “I forgot a ring in the guest room and figured I should grab it before your housekeeper decided to throw it away.” Her lips curved into a smile that was far too small to be innocent. “Miss Langford told me your beloved omega was shot and brought here.” She paused, pretending concern, but her eyes gleamed with something that wasn’t empathy. “Poor thing. So fragile. She never has much luck, does she?”

My jaw locked instantly, and tension climbed through my body, an old instinct I kept buried through sheer discipline. Her smile widened slightly, like she was pleased with my reaction.

“Oh, and I brought flowers,” she added, lifting the bouquet of white roses as if that could somehow soften her presence. “It felt appropriate.”

“Leave,” I said, my voice low, controlled. “She already has enough to deal with. She doesn’t need to deal with you, too.”

Victoria let out a soft laugh, quiet and almost amused.

“That’s sweet, darling,” she said, leaning forward just slightly. “Ever since you met that pathetic little thing, you haven’t treated me the same.”

“How could I treat you the same,” I replied, holding her gaze steadily, “when you’ve crossed every boundary I set, Victoria?”

The effect was immediate. Her smile faltered, and her eyes filled with tears that came far too quickly. I took a slow breath, forcing myself to ease the tension, because despite everything, there was history there. A past that couldn’t simply be erased.

“Listen,” I said, more controlled now. “I respect you. I care about the history we share. But it’s in the past. And I don’t want to have to repeat that every time we see each other.”

She kept her eyes on me, vulnerable in a way most people wouldn’t recognize as real.

“You don’t have to repeat it,” she said softly. “I just want you to treat me kindly. Like a friend.” She hesitated before finishing. “Can’t I be your friend?”

I stayed silent for a moment, caught between what I should do and what would be easier to avoid. Victoria had always known exactly where to press, exactly how to corner me into a position where any answer carried consequences. I took a slow breath, organizing my thoughts before responding.

“Okay,” I said finally. “We can be friends.”

Her shoulders relaxed instantly, like she’d been waiting for that permission.

“Then,” she continued carefully, “could you let me stay at your house for a few more days?”

My eyes narrowed slightly, and she noticed, because she rushed to explain.

“I was going to stay at a hotel after I left your apartment, but I don’t really have anywhere permanent right now,” she said. “And honestly, hotel rooms feel too empty. I don’t want to go back to Moonville either. You know how much I hate that place. Especially now.”

Something in her tone made me pay closer attention.

“Especially now why?”

Chapter 121

She sighed, like she was exhausted.

“My father,” she said. “Since becoming Alpha Supreme, he’s changed. He’s obsessed with power. Paranoid. Unpredictable. He’s turning Moonville upside down. Didn’t anyone tell you?”

I went completely still.

When Lucien took the position, I knew there would be changes. That was inevitable. Power demanded transformation. In the early years, the mind became sharper, more aggressive, more focused on securing dominance and eliminating threats before they could emerge. I had lived through it myself. It was a dangerous phase, where every decision carried the weight of an entire world.

And a dangerous thought began to form.

What if it was him?

What if Lucien was behind the attacks?

What if this wasn’t coincidence, but strategy?

My jaw tightened.

No. It was too soon to reach that conclusion. But it would be stupidity to ignore the possibility.

Maybe I had neglected Moonville for too long. Maybe living as a human had distanced me from threats that had continued evolving without my awareness.
