The Rejected True Heiress (Liora and Callum) novel Chapter 174

Liora’s POV

I circled my sore shoulder, wincing at the movements. It had been two days since the incident at the concert, but my body was still sore, and my head still pounded whenever the room was too bright.

But life must go on. Thankfully, I had made it out of the concert alive, thanks to Callum. Even with my concussion, the memory of that night was vivid as ever—Callum laying on top of me, caging me from the stampede, sustaining his own injuries to protect me before he carried me to safety.

I still didn’t know why he had done that, or how he had located me in that chaos. But I was grateful.

“Attention all students,” the principal’s secretary’s voice said over the PA system for the second time in as many hours, “this is a reminder to please avoid any large social gatherings until further notice. Again, please avoid any large social gatherings until further notice. This is for your own safety.”

The other students in the library murmured amongst themselves, sighing and groaning at the reminder. Ever since the rogue attack, Mr. Alder had been drilling it into our heads that large gatherings should be avoided; the rogues hadn’t been caught yet, and the authorities suspected they were intentionally targeting large groups in order to cause chaos, so another incident was to be avoided.

“Personally, I think it was just a freak accident,” Mia said from beside me, glancing up from her textbook. “I mean, why would rogues attack large crowds like that? They probably took drugs at the concert and went crazy.”

Zane shrugged. “I dunno. Seemed pretty targeted to me.” He looked at me. “The fights were too perfectly dispersed to be an accident. It felt like they were systematically going through the crowd.”

“I’d rather just study and forget it ever happened,” I muttered. “That whole thing was a nightmare.”
