Liora’s POV
“Who the hell are you?” Marcus asked.
Bianca’s hand dropped to her sides. The room fell so silent you could have heard a mouse skittering through the rafters. For a long moment, no one moved.
Then, Bianca laughed. “Oh, you!” She punched Marcus in the arm, making him reach for the knife he usually kept at his hip.
“Just let her do her thing, Marcus,” I said before he could retaliate.
“Princess?” Marcus’s voice replied through our mindlink. “Who is this kid?”
“I’ll explain later.”
I could feel the Delta’s responding confusion, but he begrudgingly obeyed. He stood there, stiff as a board, until Bianca turned and strode off. The crowd parted for her, students exchanging looks and murmurs. I spotted Callum staring at her with his brows lifted.
Mr. Alder cleared his throat and stepped forward. “As I’m sure you have all figured out by now,” he announced, “the King has sent his most trustworthy Gammas—and his Delta, Sir Marcus—to handle the rogue problem."
The crowd whispered.
“Thank you for having us, Principal Alder.” Marcus nodded his head respectfully and turned to address us. His eyes met mine in the crowd, but he quickly looked away, scanning the rest of the faces. “I assure you all that we will bring home your classmate. These rogues will not get away with this.”
Alder smiled. “It is with great pleasure that I also announce that classes will resume now that the King’s forces are here.” There was some scattered applause, along with a few groans.
“However,” he went on, “venturing off campus continues to be strictly prohibited until Sir Marcus deems it safe, and a curfew will be instated. Students who are not in the dorm tower by seven o’clock sharp will be subject to detention.” Mr. Alder found my face in the crowd. “Or worse.”
I held back the urge to roll my eyes. The crowd dispersed after that.
Marcus’s voice rippled through our minklink again. “Do you have a moment, Princess?”
I nodded and watched as he slipped into a utility closet on the side of the gymnasium. When I went in after him, the air smelled like rubber and used gym gear. Marcus immediately clapped me on the shoulder so hard that I stumbled, but I grinned, throwing my arms around him.
