Liora’s POV
Bianca was sitting by the campfire, begrudgingly peeling potatoes when we arrived. She shot me the nastiest look I’d seen from her yet when I passed by, but I ignored her.
“Three whole rabbits!” The cook leapt to his feet. “And fat ones, too! This’ll make for an excellent stew.” He looked at Bianca. “If only the potatoes would be done in time.”
Bianca grimaced and chucked a full potato into the stew, which made the cook gasp and run over, fishing it out with a ladle.
Once dinner was ready, we all sat around the fire. The stew was delicious and fatty, with a nice, salty flavor from the bouillon. We ate with the kind of silence that only comes from a really good meal after a long day. Even Bianca asked for a second helping.
After dinner, someone broke out a guitar and strummed a tune. To my surprise, Zane stood on the stump he’d been using as a chair and began to sing. My brows shot up at the sound; his voice was actually good, and the tune he belted was a familiar drinking song that had everyone stomping their feet.
Marcus, smiling, stood and held his hand out to me. “Like old times?” he asked, his voice nearly lost amongst the sounds of laughter and singing.
I flushed but took his hand and let him pull me into a dance we’d done a thousand times before, when I used to join the Gammas for trips just like this one. The steps were familiar and simple, and I found myself smiling along with him, letting him twirl and dip me just like we’d done for years.
When the song was finished, Zane hopped down from his stump and sketched a bow. I caught Callum’s gaze from across the campfire. Bianca was perched in his lap with her arms wrapped around his neck, and leaned closer to him when she saw me looking, blocking my view.
She struck when we were cleaning up from dinner. She sidled up next to me with her lip curled.
“First my father, and now his Delta?” she whispered. “When will you stop, Liora?”
I froze. “What?”
