Liora’s POV

“I can’t believe how excited I am.” Mia leaned in, nudging me with her elbow. “What about you? You’ve been smiling all morning.”

“Have I?” I shrugged. “I guess I’m a little excited to see the royal palace for the first time.”

The first time. Like I didn’t live there for my entire life. But no one could know that. Not yet.

Mia beamed. “That’s the spirit! I’m sure it’ll be fun. With everyone there, Bianca won’t have time to be… you know… Bianca.” She shuddered, and I laughed.

“Yeah. I’m sure she won’t.”

We were standing outside, waiting for the bus to arrive. It was a cool and brisk morning, the dark clouds overhead promising snow that I hoped wouldn’t come until we made it to the palace.

Somehow, Bianca had pulled it off. We had received the news first thing yesterday morning; the banquet would be held at the palace after all. I really wasn’t sure how she had done it, but somehow, she had. And honestly, I was intrigued and maybe even a little impressed.

Most of all, though, I was glad to be going home for a little while. I missed my bedroom. I missed the familiar walls of the palace. I missed my father and the people I had grown up with, even if a part of me couldn’t help but wonder if I might miss the dorm I had grown to love in such a short amount of time.

“Alright, everyone!” Bianca turned to face the group and clapped her hands together, drawing everyone’s attention. “The bus is pulling in now. Are you all ready for our big trip?” There was a smattering of cheers and applause.

Bianca cupped her hands around her ears. “I can’t hear you!”

The cheers were louder this time. Even Mia cupped her hands around her mouth and whistled. I just stuffed my hands into my pockets and watched the scene with a raised eyebrow.
