Callum’s POV
The sun was coming up by the time the bus pulled up to the school. Bianca had been sleeping peacefully with her head on my shoulder, despite her banquet being a disaster.
She’d not only corroborated the story of a criminal, but she had lied to me. To all of us.
What else had she lied about?
I thought about all of the strange looks the servants had given Liora. I thought about how swiftly she had handled the situation, with all of the grace of a true leader.
I thought about what that man had called her.
Princess.
Had Liora lied, too, when she said that she only went to Ambrose’s home as a caterer all those years ago?
Who was she, really?
The driver put the bus in park, and all the students began gathering their things. I nudged Bianca. “Wake up.”
“Hm…?” She lifted her head, yawning. “Oh. We’re back.”
“We need to talk,” I said curtly.
She blinked at me and rubbed the sleep from her eyes. “Can it wait? I’m gonna go to my room and pass out.” She smiled suggestively. “Unless you want to share a bed?”
“I’m not in the mood for this, Bianca.” I stood, reaching for my jacket. “My room. Now.”
To her credit, Bianca didn’t argue. We climbed off the bus and grabbed our bags. Or rather, I grabbed mine. She didn’t lift a finger. Just waited for me to get everything for her, just like she always did. Always expecting me to be her servant.
Well, that wasn’t going to be me this time. Maybe even never again.
“Get your own things,” I said, turning away. Jessica was standing behind me, and I said to her as I passed, “Grow a pair and stop letting her turn you into her pack mule, too.”
Jessica’s cheeks reddened, but she said nothing. Bianca called after me. I didn’t stop or slow down.
Back in my dorm, I left my bag by the door and walked over to the window. The campus grounds were covered with a light blanket of snow that would only thicken as the season went on. Everything was pure and quiet.
For a moment, I looked down at my hand. The ring I wore glinted in the early morning sunlight, reflecting the whiteness of the snow outside.
It was a beautiful ring, one that was meant to symbolize a lifelong connection to my mate, my princess. One day, my queen.
