The Rejected True Heiress (Liora and Callum) novel Chapter 276

“I’m not… sure.” My tongue suddenly felt heavy, and my words came out slurred. I looked at Bianca, but her face had begun to swim before me. “Bianca, I… I think… mywater… ‘s somethin’ innit…”

“Huh?” Her voice sounded far away and garbled, like I was under water. “Liora, you’re not making any sense…”

“Jus’ gonna… lie down…”

I felt tired. So tired. I needed to rest—just for a moment. Just long enough to regain my strength… And then… I would…

The next thing I knew, I was asleep.

“Wolfsbane.”

“What?” I heard the sound of my wolf’s voice, gentle and reassuring. It was coming somewhere from within my thoughts. I couldn’t see anything, but I could feel her there, wrapping around me like a warm embrace that I had missed for far too long.

“You ingested wolfsbane,” she said.

“How did that happen?”

“I’m not sure. But don’t worry. I’m healing you.”

“How? You’ve been dormant for months—”

“I returned just to keep you alive.”

Frustration washed over me. “So you’re saying you could have been here all along, but you ignored me all those times I asked for your help? Come back, if it’s so easy for you!”

My wolf sighed. “It’s not that simple, Liora. You rejected our mate. I won’t return until you take him back.”

“That’s bullshit, and you know it.”

“Those are my terms… Take him back and mark him. And then we will be whole again. It’s the only way.”

“Princess Bianca informed me that you wandered off on your own. She completed the exam without you.”

Of course she did. For a moment, I’d almost hoped she would briefly put aside her grievances and help me. But now I wondered if she was behind this. That had to be why she was in such good spirits—she’d planned this whole thing.

I tried to keep explaining myself to the proctor, but it was no use. “Go back to campus, Miss Belrose,” he ordered. “I already logged your failing grade into the system. So either make a complaint to the principal yourself, or repeat this semester after the holidays.”

With that, he left me there. I stood in the forest for a long moment, just listening to the sound of the wind whistling overhead. Finally, I returned to campus, stomping all the way.

A crowd was waiting when I arrived, students mingling and excitedly talking about their experience. I spotted Bianca in the crowd, and fury washed over me. It had nothing to do with the fact that she was currently clinging to Callum. It was the way she looked at me when she turned her head. The malice in her sneer was palpable, even from where I stood.

There was not a shadow of doubt in my mind now that she had been behind this.

And I would find proof.
