The Rejected True Heiress (Liora and Callum) novel Chapter 308

“So,” he said, leaning over the center console, “that was interesting. I didn’t know you feel that way about me, Liora.”

I pushed him away. “Don’t read into it.”

“It’s a little late for that, don’t you think?” He started the engine. “You just kissed me in front of your ex-mate just to make him jealous. Kind of hot, if you ask me.”

“It was a one-time thing.” I buckled my seatbelt and stared out the window. “I was just… frustrated.”

“Uh-huh.” He pulled out of the parking lot.

I folded my arms, sinking a little deeper into my seat. “I’m sorry for using you like that.”

“Nah, I’m not complaining. Even if it was only once, it was the best kiss of my life.”

I shot him a glare. “Zane.”

“What? I’m just saying, if you ever feel like getting frustrated again—”

“Please just… shut up.”

He laughed and turned up the music. The drive back to the hotel was uneventful. When we pulled up to the entrance, Zane killed the engine and looked at me.

“You sure you’re okay?” he asked.

“Yeah. I’m fine.” I opened the door. “Thanks for tonight. Most of it was fun. See you later.”

“See you, princess.”

I headed inside and took the elevator up to the third floor. Marcus was in the sitting area of our suite, reading a book. He looked up when I walked in.

“Have a good time?” he asked.

“Yeah. It was fine. I’m gonna go to bed, though.”

“Alright. Sleep well, Princess.”

“Princess? You awake?”

I groaned and sat up. My head was pounding even though I hadn’t had a drop of alcohol. “Yeah. What is it?”

“I just wanted to let you know that you can go back to bed. The storm is still going strong at the palace. Roads are closed for at least another day.”

“Okay. Thanks,” I called out. I wasn’t going to be able to go back to sleep, but at least I could stay in bed.

“How you feeling this fine morning?” A text from Zane suddenly came in.

I typed back: “Like I got hit by a truck.”

“Lol. Want to hang out again tonight? I have an idea.”

I hesitated, then typed: “Sure. Why not?”

“Perfect. I’ll pick you up at 8.”
