The Rejected True Heiress (Liora and Callum) novel Chapter 330

Liora’s POV

The new semester settled into a surprisingly calm routine.

Classes resumed, schedules became memorized like the back of our hands, and the usual hum of the academy filled the halls again. For a little while, everything was normal. Quiet, and even nice.

Except for the fact that I kept looking over my shoulder every day, waiting for Bianca to do… something.

That was the weird thing. She didn’t do anything. She kept her distance, sat quietly in class, and barely even looked at me.

Maybe it was the new headmistress. She had made it very clear on the first day that she had no tolerance for bullying or abuse of power, and that wolfless students would be afforded the same respect as anyone else.

Either that, or Bianca was just cooking up her next big scheme.

I really, really hoped it was the former reason, because I did not want to deal with Bianca’s antics this semester. I just wanted to focus on my classes. And on getting my wolf back.

My first combat class of the semester came with an extra dose of anxiety. It wasn’t just that we were moving up a level with a new professor who was known for being stern and no-nonsense, but it was also the fact that last semester, a lot of the drama started in that class.

To my surprise, it wasn’t like that this time around. Maybe it was because I realized as I walked into the room, with a sense of relief, that both Bianca and Callum were in a different class together, not in mine this semester. There were more wolfless in my class, too, so… power in numbers, I supposed.

Something else also took me by surprise that day.

The professor had everyone spar for the first day so he could assess our abilities. I was looking around for a partner when Jessica, out of nowhere, tapped me on the shoulder and nodded her head toward the sparring mat. “Will you be my partner?” she asked.

I blinked, then narrowed my eyes, studying her face in search of any kind of malice. To my shock, there was none.

I didn’t say anything, although my brows lifted.

“I knew what Bianca was doing wasn’t okay, and I went along with it anyway because I thought…” She exhaled through her nose. “You know what? I’m not going to make excuses for it. I just wanted you to know that I’m sorry, and that I’m not her friend anymore, and I’m not gonna bother you this semester.”

The room had emptied out by now, leaving just the two of us. I looked at her for a long moment, searching her expression for any sign that this was something Bianca had put her up to. Once again, I didn’t find anything.

“Okay,” I said.

Jessica blinked. “That’s it?”

“What do you want me to say?”
