The Rejected True Heiress (Liora and Callum) novel Chapter 339

“I’m not stupid, Lio-ra.” She drew out my name like she was testing the syllables—as if hearing it for the first time. Her tone dropped like she was about to spit out a wad of venom. But then she lifted her chin, pulling her shoulders back, and said, “You can mess around with him all you like, but it won’t matter. At the end of the day, Callum is mine, and you’ll never stand a chance.”

Bianca’s words fell into the space between us. They were meant to cut deep, but something about them felt… off. There was a tightness to her voice like she was struggling to force out the words. Like she was not only trying to convince me of that statement, but also herself.

There was something else there, too.

I could have sworn there was a slight tremor in her voice. Faint, but there, just barely discernible beneath the anger.

Was she… afraid?

That didn’t make any sense. I couldn’t remember the last time Bianca had come across as afraid of me, at least not since before I had lost my wolf. In fact, she’d gone out of her way on many occasions to prove just how small and insignificant she thought I was.

Something was different in her now. But I couldn’t put a finger on it. Maybe I just didn’t want to bother.

“I’m not interested in Callum,” I said firmly. “You can have him.”

Her eyes flashed victoriously.

Feeling vindictive, I added one more thing. I wasn’t entirely sure why I said it; maybe to shut her up entirely. Or maybe to try to convince myself that I didn’t care that Callum and I could never be together.

“I’m in love with Zane,” I said, “so I don’t even want your boyfriend.”

Bianca’s brows shot up. Then, she laughed. It was short and abrasive, and the sound of it made my spine go rigid.

I paused, turning to look at the woman.

“The training center is for training only,” she said coolly, sticking her hands in her pockets. “Not for conjugal visits.”

Oh, shit.

I blanched.

She looked at me for a moment longer, saying nothing, just… watching me. Studying me. It wasn’t just the fact that she’d seen Callum and I together that set me on edge; there was something else in her eyes, too. Something knowing.

I didn’t have a chance to figure out what it was before she sent me on my way. But the uncomfortable feeling in my stomach followed me all the way to my dorm.
