The Rejected True Heiress (Liora and Callum) novel Chapter 374

Liora’s POV

The last thing I wanted to do with my Saturday morning after the week I’d just had was go out for bagels and shopping. But Mia practically begged me to go with her, saying how the weather was too nice today to sit inside and sulk all day, and I had been a bad enough friend all week, so I reluctantly got dressed and drove Shirley downtown.

“Hey, this bucket of nuts is actually coming along,” Zane, who had decided to tag along the moment he’d heard mention of food, said as we climbed out of the car. “Not bad for a junker.”

“Hey! Be nice to Shirley,” Mia said, patting the roof of the car. “It’s okay, girl. You’re not a junker. You’re beautiful just the way you are.”

The car let out an extra, unnecessary poot of exhaust as if chuffing in response.

I stuffed my hands in my pockets and followed behind as Mia and Zane led the way to the bagel shop. Admittedly, the weather today was fantastic. All of the snow had long since melted, and spring had finally sprung. The air smelled like flowers and fresh grass and petrichor from a light drizzle that had happened overnight while we slept.

The bagel shop in question was tucked into a narrow alley off the main street. Mia was already chattering about how she wanted a salt bagel with garlic and herb cream cheese.

“Good gods above, woman,” Zane cringed. “Don’t ask me to kiss you after all that.”

Mia blushed. I smiled. At least two people were happy in the realm of love. Not all was lost in the world.

Speak of the devil, I spotted Bianca almost immediately. I heard her laugh before I saw her, wafting out of the open door of a local shop. The sign overhead read “Betsy’s Bridal Boutique,” and through the large bay window at the front of the building, I could see her.

I froze, even though I knew I shouldn’t linger. But I just couldn’t pull my gaze away. Bianca was standing in the middle of the shop on the little platform, looking radiant as ever in a large, elaborate white ballgown.
