The Rejected True Heiress (Liora and Callum) novel Chapter 415

“Something subtler,” Callum’s mother added.

“Yes.” Callum’s father paused.. “There are other ways to handle it. Something that looks natural. An accident, maybe, or…”

I didn’t linger to hear the rest of it.

I pushed off the wall. My heart was slamming so hard I could feel it in my ears, my throat, my fingertips. I needed to get to Callum. Right now, before anything else happened, before they had a chance to try something else in this house tonight—

I had taken no more than two steps when a hand closed around my arm from behind.

The grip was iron. I was yanked backward before I could make a sound, stumbling on my good leg, and then I was being propelled forward through the dining room doors.

The butler.

He had come from nowhere, silent in his white gloves, and he shoved me into the room ahead of him without a word. I tripped over the threshold and barely caught myself against the edge of the table. The china rattled.

Callum’s parents looked up.

His mother’s expression didn’t budge. She sipped her tea slowly, deliberately, then set the teacup down into the saucer and set the whole thing on the table.

“How long were you standing there, little mouse?” Callum’s father asked calmly.

“Long enough,” I said.

His mother stood. She smoothed her skirt. “Bring her here,” she said to the butler.
