The Rejected True Heiress (Liora and Callum) novel Chapter 443

I clenched my jaw and looked away.

“I’ve been thinking about all the things I’m going to do to you,” he went on, his voice dropping lower, lips brushing my shoulder now. “I think I’ll start by tying you to the bed. Maybe keep you there for a few days, see how long it takes before you stop fighting back.” He paused, his tongue darting out to touch my earlobe. “Then I’ll use you whenever I want. However I want. And this time, you won’t be able to do a damn thing about it.”

My hands curled into fists. “You’re bluffing.”

“Keep telling yourself that, if it helps you sleep at night, darling. But I’m coming for you, whether you like it or not.”

I shoved at his chest, hard enough that he had to let go or risk falling backward in his chair. He released me, and I stumbled to my feet and backed away, my heart pounding.

Ambrose just smiled and reached for his glass again, crossing his legs at the ankles. “Run along, darling. Enjoy your freedom while it lasts.”

I turned and walked across the hall, my legs shaking. I needed to get away from him. I needed to think.

Halfway across the room, I looked up at my mother, still sitting at the head table. One of her attendants was fanning her as she sat back in her chair while another dabbed at her forehead with a washcloth.

Her eyes met mine, but only briefly before they fell shut.

My jaw clenched so tightly I was sure my teeth would crack. I would find no help from her.

I spotted Belinda then, still perched demurely in her seat. Her lips quirked just slightly, and she raised her glass toward me. Just a little. Just enough so that I noticed.

I ignored her and looked away.

Finally, I made it to the punch table on the other side of the room and poured myself a glass with trembling hands. The liquid sloshed over the rim, spilling onto the white tablecloth, but I didn’t care right now. I needed something cold.

I brought the glass to my lips and drank. The punch was sweet, too sweet, but the ice helped steady my nerves. I sucked on a piece and exhaled, thinking for a moment.

Ambrose was lying. He had to be. My father wouldn’t just strip me of my inheritance. He wouldn’t do that to me.
