The Return of Special Forces Queen novel Chapter 5

Jocelyn's pupils shrank in sheer terror. Instinct taking over, she twisted her body, clutching the urn desperately to her chest to shield it from the fall.

"These are my parents! How could you do something so vile?!" she screamed, her voice shaking with rage.

"This is my son's house! If you dare bring that morbid garbage in here, I'll smash that box to pieces! Let your dead parents see what a vicious daughter they raised, trying to curse the Grayson family with bad luck!" Ursula spat, her words dripping with pure venom.

Jocelyn's eyes blazed. Her knuckles turned white as she hugged the urn. "Even if you're my mother-in-law, you do not get to insult my parents!"

Carter quickly interjected. "Jocelyn, just take the urn outside. Stop upsetting my mother! She just had surgery. If her blood pressure spikes, I will never forgive you!"

Jocelyn's hands trembled around the polished wood, the fury in her eyes burning even brighter.

Three years of marriage, and her husband couldn't offer her deceased parents even a shred of basic human decency!

Seeing her rooted to the spot, Carter's face darkened with impatience. "Are you leaving? Or do I have to force you out?"

"Ha!" Jocelyn let out a bitter, broken laugh, looking down at the box in her arms.

*Mom, Dad... I really did marry the wrong man!*

Three years ago, this very man had looked at her with nervous eyes and asked, "I have no house, no car... will you still marry me?"

She had nodded, simply because on the day she received the news of her parents' deaths, he was the one who sat quietly beside her and wiped away her tears.

After they died, Abner had told her earnestly, "Jocelyn, your parents' greatest worry was always your future. The Special Forces are too dangerous. I don't want to see you end up like them, or your brother. I know they would want you to live a long, safe life."

Her parents were dead. Her brother was missing in action. Her family of four had dwindled down to just her.

"Hmph, this is Carter's house anyway. What right does she have to make the rules? An orphan acting like she owns the place," Ursula grumbled.

Carter stared at Jocelyn's retreating back. A sudden hollowness bloomed in his chest, a strange sensation that he was losing something irreplaceable.

Jocelyn drove straight to a high-end columbarium to store the funerary urn. She planned to take her parents back to their hometown for a proper burial, but the headstones and arrangements would take time, so they needed a temporary resting place.

"Mom, Dad, just wait a little longer. I'll take you home soon," she whispered, carefully draping the national flag over the polished wood.

"And one day, I'll find my brother so we can visit your graves together. I know he's still alive," Jocelyn murmured.

Her brother had been a soldier too, vanishing along the border during a classified mission five years ago. During her time in the military, she had relentlessly searched for him, but every lead had turned up cold.
